Chapter Ninety-Three: What Is More Terrifying Than Zombies Is the Human Heart
Do not worry about our safety.
At that moment, Chen Yi spoke with calm indifference.
"Just take care of yourselves for now. I will handle the rest."
Then he led Chu Yunxi inside the warship and arranged for her and Chen Yaxi to stay in a quiet room.
Standing before the two of them, Chen Yi's gaze was firm.
"Things are very complicated right now. I hope you can be wise and protect yourselves, and live well."
"Where are you going?"
Hearing him say that, for some reason Chu Yunxi felt a chill of worry stir in her heart.
"No, you absolutely cannot leave us behind and go take risks on your own."
"Don't worry. I won't be taking risks alone."
He waved to the two of them, his eyes resolute.
"What I need to do now is sort out my current situation completely. There will be slaughter tonight, and I do not want you involved. No matter what you hear, do not come out. Stay hidden to avoid getting hurt."
"You're going too far."
As soon as she heard that he intended to face the bloodshed alone, Chu Yunxi, who had already been somewhat uneasy in her heart, instantly arched a brow.
"Do you think we're not trustworthy?"
"Because you're too trustworthy, I can't hand this matter over to you."
As he said this, Chen Yi swiftly placed his hand on the saber at his waist.
"I can't be sure how many people aboard this ship are General K's spies, but I can be certain that tonight is not the night those people will let us live in peace. Rest well. By midnight, there may be a good show to watch."
For the rest of the time, Chen Yi stayed together with the others.
Lu Kai asked a few questions in the middle, but because Chen Yi cut him off, he did not continue asking about Chen Yaxi and Chu Yunxi. Instead, he leaned against Chen Yi for a while to rest, somewhat weary, and in truth he also felt that preserving one's strength was important.
The crew aboard the ship each harbored their own thoughts.
Chen Yi and his men were indeed formidable, but to make them completely submit to the hands of such a useless lot and obey their arrangements, each of them was so arrogant that they wanted nothing more than to force him out.
Several people went off with Zheng Xiaoda to discuss attacking Chen Yi.
Zheng Xiaoda immediately rebuked them. "You think the three of you can lay a hand on him? Have you gone mad?"
"Boss."
Someone took the initiative to speak then. "Why not? If we don't make a move now, are we supposed to wait until that guy comes to us first? I don't think that's a good idea at all."
Zheng Xiaoda only felt vexed and uneasy.
What they said was not without reason, and he had considered it carefully himself. Yet when danger drew near, Chen Yi's steadfast decisiveness had indeed influenced many people.
Since that was the case, Zheng Xiaoda certainly was not willing to let those fellows drag him into a pit of fire.
He paced back and forth before making up his mind.
"Do whatever you want. Anyway, I'm not going to join your nonsense!"
At that, the others sneered and shook their heads.
"Coward! In that case, we have nothing more to say."
Having said that, the men who had reached an agreement made a complete decision: at the crucial moment, they would strike to kill!
All of it was seen by Chen Yi.
By midnight, everyone had already fallen asleep, while those who had just been plotting began to move quietly, first intending to target the people Chen Yi cared about most.
Who would have thought that before they even took half a step, they would find Chen Yi standing in their way at the doorway. The sight stunned them all, and their bodies trembled as they staggered back several paces.
Chen Yi strode forward with a cold, mocking smile in his eyes.
"Why have you stopped? Do you think I came at the wrong time and disturbed your little plan?"
Those fellows saw the killing intent in Chen Yi's eyes and knew that whether they admitted defeat or not, they would not be spared.
Chen Yi moved with lightning speed, his blade flashing down and instantly cutting down a row of soldiers.
Although doing so meant damaging the arrangements he had previously made, for those who could not merge into the group, there was only a dead end.
He pressed on with the attack at high speed, Chen Yi's gaze icy, no emotion left in it at all.
Zheng Xiaoda had originally wanted to go over and help his teammates, but seeing Chen Yi grow fiercer by the moment, he knew he absolutely could not move. If he went to throw himself into the fray now, things would only become far more troublesome.
So even though he worried about those former teammates in his heart, Zheng Xiaoda gritted his teeth and accepted it. Who had told those fools to seek death themselves?
The battle ended quickly. In less than ten minutes, the entire deck was drenched in blood.
When Chu Yunxi and Chen Yaxi came out, what they saw was a mountain of corpses.
Still, compared with the dead caused by the zombie attack, this was already much better, so neither of them was especially shaken.
Only Chen Yaxi let out a faint sigh. "Sigh, another ending like this. Big brother, can't you be a little gentler? At least send these dead bodies into the sea. Leaving such a mess here is awful."
"There was no time to think that far ahead."
Chen Yi smiled faintly, but his eyes remained fixed on Zheng Xiaoda.
"I was merely wondering what should be done if someone could no longer fulfill the promise they made to me?"
"Boss."
Zheng Xiaoda immediately began to tremble. "I can't be blamed for this. I know I promised you that there would be no greater danger to you, but this situation... it's true that I was covering for them. Those people really did have their own ambitions, and I..."
"You don't need to say any more."
Chen Yi laughed softly at his explanation.
"If you want to say you bear no responsibility in this matter, I'm sorry, but I don't believe it."
"I know I have responsibility."
Lowering his head once more, Zheng Xiaoda muttered darkly, "From the moment I learned they were planning to imitate it, I should have told you, instead of waiting for you to discover it yourself."
Chen Yi gave a cold laugh again.
"So you do know that I had already found out. In that case, please abide by the rules and accept the punishment you deserve."
Hearing this, Zheng Xiaoda stared wide-eyed in confusion.
"What else am I supposed to do? Didn't I make myself clear just now? You still won't forgive me?"
Chen Yi swept him with a composed glance.
"First, I have never forgiven you. Second, what I am going to do is make people like you, so high and mighty and self-important, submit. So whether you live or die depends on your own choice. The rest is none of my concern."
