Chapter Fifty-Three: The Fierce Battle Against the Mutant Shark!
Immediately, several explosive arrows were launched, their flaming tips streaking toward the giant shark. The erupting sparks caused the beast’s movements to falter. Seizing the moment, Chen Yi surged forward, plunging his double-edged blade deep into the shark’s belly. Hu Sanhan, targeting the gaping wound, struck without hesitation, his blade slicing through the creature’s vital spot.
The giant shark writhed in agony before its massive body crashed heavily to the ground, sending a dull reverberation through the air.
“Well done!” Lu Kai clenched his fist from the rear, exclaiming in excitement.
The enormous shark was dealt with, yet before the group could even catch their breath, more monstrous sharks burst forth from the surging columns of water—two, three, four, five in total! Along the shore, the mutated crabs added to the menace in a most bizarre fashion. Their shells gleamed like hardened steel, and their pincers glittered coldly, poised to tear apart anything that dared approach.
“Boss, more sharks incoming—there are five!” Lu Kai sounded uneasy, his voice tinged with anxiety.
Chen Yi’s brows knitted, a cold glint flickering in his eyes. “Don’t panic. We’ll handle them.”
“Everyone, follow my lead. The sharks are formidable, but their movements are not agile. First, clear out those mutated crabs!”
“Understood!” Hu Sanhan and the others responded promptly, shifting swiftly into combat stances.
As they drew near, the crabs sensed their hostility and swung their terrifying pincers with alarming speed. Their eyes shone an eerie green, as if intent on tearing the intruders to shreds.
“Spread out! Don’t cluster together!” Chen Yi shouted, dodging quickly to the side.
At the same time, his double-edged blade flashed out, severing a crab’s pincer in a single stroke. He deftly leapt onto the back of another crab, plunging his blade into its head.
Not far off, Lu Kai took aim with his sniper rifle, seeking his mark. Fixing on a crab that was closing in menacingly, he squeezed the trigger. The bullet pierced through the creature’s eye, spraying green ichor as it convulsed in pain before collapsing.
“We have to end this quickly!” Chen Yi shouted, rushing at his next target.
At that moment, a crab larger than all the rest emerged from the water, its abdomen grotesquely swollen and its titanic pincers slicing the air with deadly force.
“Chen, that giant crab seems to be their leader!” Hu Sanhan called out.
Chen Yi drew a deep breath, his gaze steady and calm. “I’ll handle it. Cover me!”
No sooner had he spoken than he shot like lightning toward the monstrous crab. Its cold eyes fixed on him, the terrible strength in its pincers apparent with every swing.
Lu Kai opened fire from the rear, giving Chen Yi a clear path. “Take it down, boss!”
Chen Yi leapt, his blade arcing like silver lightning, striking down at the crab’s head. The creature tried to block with its pincers, but Chen Yi’s power drove the blade through its defenses, cleaving deep into its armored carapace.
A sharp crack rang out as the shell split open, green liquid gushing from the wound. The crab screeched in pain, its cry vibrating the air.
It summoned its remaining strength for a final counterattack, its pincers snapping at Chen Yi. “Get back!” Hu Sanhan saw the danger and rushed in, parrying one pincer with his blade, while the other was abruptly severed by Chen Yaxi’s telekinetically controlled shuttle.
Seizing the chance, Chen Yi struck again, his blade driving straight through the crab’s head. The massive creature toppled, its colossal weight gouging a shallow crater in the earth.
“Troublemaker, you’re dealt with,” Chen Yi panted, his gaze still razor sharp.
But in the distance, the enormous sharks were not idle. One had already surged onto the sand, maw agape as it lunged at the group.
“Stay alert!” Chen Yi called out once more.
At that moment, Chen Yaxi suddenly cried, “That shark is showing new mutations! There are faint scales forming on its body!”
“Scales?” Chen Yi quickly identified the shark—its frame even larger than the others, its scales shimmering with a pale luster, making it all the more fearsome.
“Looks like we’ve got another tough one,” Chen Yi said with a cold smile. He turned to Lu Kai. “Let’s go for its weakest point first.”
Lu Kai nodded, gripping his sniper rifle tightly. “I’ll test its defenses.”
He fired a shot at the mutated shark, aiming for its eye. But the creature whipped around, its powerful tail sweeping aside the shot. The bullet struck its flesh, sparking as if hitting steel plate, leaving not a scratch.
Seizing a brief opening as the enraged shark lashed out, Chen Yi flipped aside, then leapt onto its back, his blade flashing toward its gills.
Yet the scales proved as hard as iron, the blade merely striking sparks as it glanced off.
“Damn, this defense is insane!” Chen Yi gritted his teeth.
Silently, Hu Sanhan crept closer, his golden broadsword hacking down on the shark’s tail. The immense force sheared off a large section of the tail fin, where the scales had not yet fully formed. Blood spurted in great jets as the shark writhed in torment, its tail thrashing and sending sand and stones flying.
Chen Yi seized the chance, his blade sweeping down in a silver arc, stabbing into the exposed belly.
With a sharp crack, the scales on the abdomen split, and a gaping wound spread rapidly.
The shark howled in agony, blood gushing out like a torrent. Its body began to tremble and sway.
“Keep attacking! Don’t let up!” Chen Yi shouted, his presence blazing with fighting spirit.
The entire team pressed the assault, hacking and firing from all sides, trapping the monstrous shark in a deadly ring.
Just as the fearsome beast let out a final, anguished roar, it twisted its body in a bizarre convulsion, as though regaining a last surge of strength.
“Look out!” Chen Yi cried, urgency in his voice.
With his experience through countless brushes with death, he recognized the signs: the shark was making a final, desperate counterattack.
“Don’t fight it head-on! Have the team fall back!” Chen Yi commanded, his eyes locked on the wounded behemoth.
The shark’s strength and speed remained formidable. A sweep of its tail or a snap of its jaws would be lethal.
Meanwhile, the other sharks moved with uncanny coordination, swiftly forming a half-encirclement around the group. Some team members, unable to retreat in time, fell, their bodies claimed by the sharks’ gaping maws. The scene turned ghastly in an instant.
“Quick! Retreat!” Chen Yi’s voice rang out again, but in the chaos, he caught sight of Chen Yaxi’s terrified expression.
He saw, in that instant, that Chen Yaxi was about to be seized by a mutated shark’s snapping jaws!
