Chapter Fifty-Eight: Annihilation at Last

Just as everyone believed the battle had finally ended, something strange occurred. The tentacles scattered across the island began to rapidly decay, creating an eerily bizarre scene.

Lu Kai and his teammates stared in disbelief.

“What... what is this monstrous thing?” Lu Kai frowned, his pupils contracting sharply.

“Everyone, stay alert!”

Chen Yi instantly became wary; his instincts told him this was no ordinary phenomenon.

As the tentacles rotted away, a gigantic octopus gradually took form. Its flesh was a ghastly green, half-transparent, giving it a terrifying appearance.

The creature lashed out with its tentacles, spraying venom that was fiercely corrosive.

“Ah—!!”

A team member was splashed by the venom, crying out in agony. His skin melted away upon contact, an appalling sight.

“Damn it! This monster has yet another heart!” Chen Yi gritted his teeth, realizing that this was the final form they needed to destroy.

He shouted, “Everyone, avoid the venom! This time, we must completely crush its main heart!”

Hu Sanhan brandished his golden blade, stepping forward to shield him. “Brother, I’ll cover you!”

“Alright!”

Chen Yi nodded, gripping his twin-bladed knife, ready to plunge back into combat.

The giant octopus emitted a piercing screech, its tentacles flailing wildly, venom splattering everywhere.

The team dodged as best they could, but several were unlucky and fell, writhing in pain.

“Yaxi, watch out!”

Chen Yi saw his sister narrowly escape the venom, his heart pounding with anxiety. He dashed over, pulling her to safety.

“Brother…”

Chen Yaxi’s breathing was uneven, shaken by the close call.

“If you’re tired, rest for a while. Don’t push yourself too hard,” Chen Yi said gently, stroking her hair. He knew controlling the flying shuttle drained her mental energy; it was impossible for her to sustain it endlessly.

Besides, Yaxi was still young. Forcing her to continue would be damaging to her body.

He then turned swiftly to confront the monstrous creature.

Hu Sanhan roared, “Brothers, charge! Give it everything!”

Lu Kai refused to be outdone, raising his firearm and firing repeatedly at the octopus. “Get out of my way!”

Yet the bullets seemed to have little effect. The giant octopus continued its frenzied assault.

Chen Yi understood they had to locate the heart, or all their efforts would be in vain.

The heart was inside the octopus, but it moved about, as if it possessed a life of its own, controlling the enormous body.

He calmed himself, watching the octopus closely, searching for any exploitable weakness.

Suddenly, he noticed a faintly flickering light in the creature’s abdomen—the original location of its heart!

No matter how the heart moved, it would inevitably return to that spot for a brief moment.

That was the opportunity.

“Brother Hu, cover me! I’m going in!” Chen Yi shouted.

“Got it!” Hu Sanhan unhesitatingly carved a bloody path with his golden blade.

Seizing the chance, Chen Yi closed in, weaving skillfully through the tentacles, dodging venomous attacks.

As he neared the glowing spot, he leapt high and plunged his twin blades down with all his might.

Boom!

A tremendous shockwave rippled out—the heart was struck true.

But it wasn’t enough. The heart merely paused before thrashing wildly again.

“No, we have to keep attacking!”

Chen Yi clenched his teeth. This time, they had to utterly destroy the heart to kill the monster for good.

Hu Sanhan saw this and shouted, “Brothers, all-out assault!”

The team responded, pouring their strength into suppressing the octopus, buying Chen Yi precious time.

Chu Yunxi forced herself to join the fray, controlling the flying shuttle with her willpower, targeting the creature’s vital points.

“Yaxi…”

Seeing Yaxi persist, Chen Yi refused to let the giant octopus rampage any longer!

At that moment, Chen Yaxi took flight, determination blazing on her young face. “Brother, I’ll protect you!”

With everyone working together, the giant octopus finally weakened. Its movements slowed, and its heart became more exposed.

Seizing the moment, Chen Yi leapt high once more, pouring every ounce of strength into his blades as he stabbed deep into the heart.

Boom—

A deafening explosion erupted. Blood and viscous fluid splattered everywhere.

The giant octopus shrieked in agony, its entire body convulsing. All its tentacles collapsed, utterly lifeless.

“We did it!”

Lu Kai let out a triumphant howl. The island returned to silence, the air thick with a pungent stench.

Chen Yi and his teammates stood beside the corpse of the giant octopus, gasping for breath.

Exhaustion was etched on every face, but relief and satisfaction shone brighter.

“It’s finally over.”

Lu Kai wiped the sweat from his brow, his voice noticeably lighter.

“Yeah, that was perilous.”

Hu Sanhan leaned on his golden blade, looking slightly weak.

Chen Yi nodded, his gaze lingering on the massive carcass. He sensed there was a deeper secret behind this battle.

“Let’s rest a bit, then start searching the island.”

Yaxi approached Chen Yi and whispered, “Brother, what are you thinking about?”

“I’m wondering if there are other dangers lurking here.”

“So, I need to keep a close eye out.”

Chen Yi frowned, still a little uneasy.

After a brief rest, the group began searching the island.

Soon, they discovered a hidden entrance, resembling an air-raid shelter.

“There’s an air-raid shelter here?”

“Did people once live here?”

Lu Kai said in surprise.

Hu Sanhan examined the surroundings carefully and nodded. “It looks like it, and there’s probably a fair amount of supplies stored here.”

Chen Yi signaled everyone to proceed cautiously. He walked to the entrance and pushed open the heavy iron door.

A damp, musty air rushed out, sending a chill through them.

“Let’s take a look inside.”

Chen Yi led the way, the others following close behind.

The shelter’s interior was spacious; tools and equipment hung from the walls.

Boxes were stacked in the corners, seemingly reserve supplies.

Hu Sanhan opened one box and found canned food and bottled water inside.

“Is this stuff still edible?” Chen Yaxi asked worriedly.

“It should be.”

“Though it’s been a while, it’s still preserved quite well.”

Hu Sanhan checked the production dates on the cans.
