“So, you’re saying he isn’t truly powerful?”

Once Chen Yi learned the truth, he immediately let out a sigh of relief.

As long as his power had not genuinely surpassed the level of Judgment, changing fate against the heavens would actually be quite easy.

Damn it!

Pete the Zombie’s eye sockets sank deeply.

He had never dreamed that things would develop this way. If he had known that little Chu Yunxi would become the key to uncovering his secret, he should have attacked her just now.

Because of one moment’s hesitation, everything he had done was exposed, and his carefully laid plans came to nothing. Pete could not help but feel a surge of hatred—hatred for his own stupidity, and even more hatred for how deeply Chen Yi and the others had schemed.

“Boss, you’re seriously amazing!”

Only then did Lu Kai realize what had happened.

Chen Yi and Chu Yunxi had already noticed that something was wrong with their opponent, so they had joined forces and devised this plan. It seemed that there was still much he needed to learn from his boss and sister-in-law.

“Remember this.”

Chen Yi spoke slowly.

“No person or thing can be invincible. Only a state of being can be called invincible. He kept acting so smug just now that I began to wonder what secret he was still hiding. Sure enough, when Yunxi said she could not see through his ability, I noticed how unusually confident he was. Since he was so confident, I guessed that he must possess some special power hidden within him.”

“How despicable.”

Chen Yaxi planted her hands on her hips and clenched her fists indignantly. “He would actually do something like this. It’s truly disgraceful!”

“Don’t put it that way. For a zombie to come up with such a plan is already quite remarkable.”

“But he did do something wrong.”

Chen Yaxi frowned again, a trace of unease appearing on her face. “Big Brother, I feel like you’re being too lenient with him.”

Chen Yi reached out and rubbed the little girl’s head before replying with complete composure.

“Girl, it’s not that I intend to forgive him. We are sworn enemies, and sooner or later, I will kill him. But if we capture him now, we won’t know what forces are behind him. I believe he could never have reached this level by relying on his own strength alone.”

Chen Yi had always believed that, under the influence of the Calamity Curse in this apocalyptic world, certain mutated beings might indeed exist. But even humans could not possess abilities with absolute perfection, let alone a zombie that had already degenerated into a low-level life-form.

A single remark had awakened someone from a dream.

Chu Yunxi immediately thought of something and nodded.

“That’s right. How could I almost forget? The zombies of today cannot possess the senses, smell, hearing, or taste that humans have. So they may very well resort to every possible means and take other shortcuts.”

Chen Yi nodded at Chu Yunxi and spoke approvingly.

“Exactly. That is my greatest concern. But even that isn’t entirely correct. Amid this wave of zombie mutations, there are also people who have remained on the sidelines, waiting and watching without taking action. Those people are the true enemies.”

After a long silence, Chu Yunxi nodded once more.

“I understand what you mean. So what do we do now?”

Chen Yi took Chu Yunxi’s hand. “Leave it to me.”

As Chen Yi turned around, Pete the Zombie—who had been so smug only moments earlier—grew tense and quickly clenched his fists.

“What do you want to say? Relax. I can’t be bothered to kill you. At a time like this, attacking you would be the most pointless thing I could do.”

“What did you say?”

Pete spoke again with a tremor in his voice, gnashing his teeth. “How dare you speak to me like that?”

“Why wouldn’t I? Think about it. Many things can still be changed for a reason, but you chose to influence us through despicable means. Since you refuse to show even the slightest reason or mercy, it is only natural for me to attack you.”

The moment Chen Yi said this, Pete became visibly afraid, and an indescribable emotion began to surface in his eyes.

No. Chen Yi could not possibly know about my other trump cards. How could he possess such power? If anyone could guess another person’s plans, it would be Chu Yunxi. That was at least possible.

Pete continued hypnotizing himself, repeatedly telling himself that everything could still be changed. But before long, he began to lose his nerve, because Chen Yi and the others’ calm, confident reactions had shaken him.

Pete had always demanded to be the strongest, and as he surveyed the situation before him, he felt nothing but fury.

At that moment, thunder boomed and lightning flashed across the sky. Everyone sensed that the next wave of corpses and a new crisis were about to arrive, and they immediately prepared to attack.

Narrowing his eyes as he watched Chen Yi and the others, Pete began to regret his decision.

Their strength was astonishing—so much so that he could no longer make any new arrangements.

Perhaps, sometimes, persistence was nothing more than a waste of energy.

Pete shook his head with a bitter smile, then made a slaughtering gesture toward the Great Zombie.

“I’m leaving this place to you!”

The Great Zombie panicked instantly. Pete had taken the main force away, leaving him alone in front of Chen Yi and the others.

“How can you do this?”

Pete let out a mocking laugh, a trace of cruelty glinting in his eyes.

“You were merely a sacrifice I used to deal with Chen Yi. What right do you have to question me? In fact, from the moment you chose to become the recipient of the sacrifice, you should have understood that your role was nothing more than a puppet!”

The Great Zombie finally understood what it meant to be left utterly helpless and speechless.

Pete had never intended to let him become a king!

Looking at the scene before him, Chen Yi remained more concerned about the red zombie, Pete.

This zombie’s intelligence and ability to act were steadier than those of humans. Clearly, he was no ordinary opponent.

Although he was anxious, he still understood how to sever his tail to survive and sacrifice a pawn to save the commander. That kind of courage was beyond what ordinary people could muster, or even comprehend.

Chen Yi turned once more to Chu Yunxi beside him and smiled faintly.

“Wife, what we need to do now is obviously pull the overall battle situation toward our side. We can’t let them destroy our world!”

Chu Yunxi nodded. “Don’t worry. Now that we know my ability hasn’t stopped working, things will be much easier. Brother A Yi, you deal with the others. I’ll probe the other zombies.”

“Good!”

As Chen Yi and his companions began to act with renewed confidence, an even greater crisis was being unleashed by the members of the Avengers Club.

The so-called Avengers Club was merely an emergency revenge division established when the X Organization changed its position.

This upheaval was also the grand gift the X Organization had prepared for Chen Yi. They wanted to make him suffer unbearable pain.

Unfortunately, their ideas were far too naive. This sort of method was still far too immature...
