Chapter 160: The Final Battle—the Red Zombie’s Provocation

The fact that Mo Bai was being targeted by the zombies he had created himself struck Mary as deeply amusing.
He must have been regretting it bitterly by now. After all, he had poured an enormous amount of effort into this whole affair, only to gain nothing in the end. It was the sort of thing that would make him a laughingstock.
At that moment, Mo Bai truly looked like a stray dog—utterly wretched and humiliated.
He had never imagined that something like this could happen.
His face had turned ashen, his fists were clenched tightly, and he stared helplessly at everyone around him.
The red zombie slammed him to the ground, then swept his gaze toward Chen Yi.
Without thinking, Chen Yi pushed the people beside him backward and stepped to the front himself.
Seeing his stance, the red zombie let out a mocking laugh.
“Chen Yi, you really are a clever man. But if I wanted to deal with someone, I wouldn’t just stand here and give you time to prepare. I’m in a good mood today and don’t feel like attacking you. Leave.”
Chen Yi frowned deeply. “What do you mean?”
“Nothing in particular.”
The zombie curled his lips again, a hint of cunning glinting in his eyes.
“I simply can’t be bothered to fight you right now. That’s the biggest reason. Of course, if you’re looking for death, I won’t mind granting your wish.”
Chen Yaxi pouted, disgusted by the man’s outrageous arrogance.
He truly had thicker skin than a city wall. He possessed no more than a bit of petty cleverness, yet he still dared to place himself on equal footing with her brother. If Chen Yi had not told her earlier not to step forward, she would probably have already attacked and taught him a proper lesson.
Mary, meanwhile, did not know what to do.
From a standpoint of allegiance, she was now Mo Bai’s enemy. But considering their former relationship as colleagues, she also felt she should look out for him. She was caught in an extremely difficult position.
“What is it? Do you want to go over there?”
Seeing Mary’s reaction, Chen Yi spoke calmly.
“I’m not stopping you. If that’s what you want, then go ahead. I won’t interfere.”
“Why are you getting so worked up?”
Mary’s eyes held a trace of helplessness.
“I haven’t even said anything. Why are you acting so agitated?”

Chen Yi ignored her and once again fixed a wary gaze on the red zombie.
In his eyes, Mary and Mo Bai were insignificant. The true enemy was this creature. He posed a greater threat than the two of them combined.
Though he had been created and manipulated by others, it was obvious that he possessed a mind of his own—and a remarkably deep one at that.
The red zombie also sensed that something was wrong. Chen Yi was far more complicated than he had expected. If he continued provoking him, he might not come out of it unscathed. After pondering for a moment, he slowly spoke.
“What exactly are you trying to do? If you want to fight, then say so clearly. I’ll fight you directly.”
“There’s no need to rush.”
Chen Yi smiled again, but there was a trace of resolution in his eyes.
“I have no other intentions. I merely want you to understand that every person beside us is a force to be reckoned with. If you insist on using force, then we can find out for ourselves who will be the last one standing.”
What a formidable man.
A cold light now filled the red zombie’s eyes.
To remain calm in such a crisis and still say something like that to place pressure on him—this was unquestionably a man of consequence. It seemed this matter truly could not be taken lightly.
After weighing the advantages and disadvantages, the red zombie burst into laughter.
“It’s all just a misunderstanding. Isn’t the culprit standing right here? This has nothing to do with us. Chen Yi, our zombies and you aren’t actually in conflict, are we? You don’t need to attack us for the sake of these people who used software to kill others.”
“Then tell us what role you played in all this.”
Chen Yi’s gaze hardened as he looked straight at the creature. The smile that had just been on the red zombie’s face vanished at once.
He had not expected Chen Yi to ask such a question, and for a moment, he could not force himself to laugh.
Judging from his reaction, Chen Yi formed a rough conclusion.
“What’s wrong? Can’t you come up with an explanation now? Don’t tell me you’ve been bluffing from beginning to end.”
Clenching his fists, the red zombie’s gaze grew exceptionally dark.
“Chen Yi, I’m advising you for your own good. Don’t refuse kindness only to invite punishment.”
“So what exactly are you trying to emphasize?”
Chen Yi once again displayed his cold indifference toward the matter.

“If you truly believed there was no need for negotiation, you wouldn’t have voluntarily abandoned your intention to fight just now, would you?”
“You!”
Chen Yi’s response had been so swift that it caught the red zombie completely off guard. Indeed, if he had genuinely intended to fight, there was no reason for him to let Chen Yi and the others go just now. After all, the initiative lay with the zombie army. As the ruler of countless zombies and commander of the entire undead legion, he had no need to fear these humans.
Yet he also understood that it took two sides to make a conflict. If Chen Yi chose to cooperate with the X Organization, his own situation would become extremely dangerous. That was why, without absolute certainty, he had taken the initiative to give Chen Yi and the others a chance to retreat.
“Boss, why waste your breath on them?”
A green zombie standing beside the red zombie could not hold back any longer. An ominous aura seemed to radiate from his entire body.
“Didn’t we agree that all humans were to be slaughtered without mercy? We mustn’t give them any more chances.”
“Shut up.”
The red zombie shot him a fierce glance, a sharp edge flashing in his eyes.
“Since when did it become your place to rule my world?”
“I didn’t mean that.”
The green zombie immediately dropped to his knees. Sweat poured down his forehead, and his entire body trembled with fear. He would never dare oppose his leader. After all, he still needed to survive under that man’s command.
Turning aside, the red zombie’s emotions grew even more complicated.
“I don’t think continuing to fight like this is a wise course of action.”
“And what are you suggesting?”
Chen Yi’s twin blades had already been joined into one. He was ready to act at any moment, yet before his opponent made a move, he maintained his composure.
“Tell me what you’re really thinking. Do you want to kill people? Or do you have some other objective?”
“Kill people? That’s far too lowbrow. It doesn’t suit my status.”
The red zombie laughed heartily, then his expression turned icy.
“I have a better way to make myself feel at ease. Living in a state worse than death is far more interesting than simply dying. I imagine you understand that principle better than I do.”
