Chapter 120: A New Enemy—The Freezing Zombie!
At that moment, a large horde of zombies appeared once again.
Just as Chen Yi was beginning to feel that things were getting troublesome, Hu Sanhan and Lu Kai had already taken action, but strangely, the zombies completely bypassed them, forcing Chen Yi into a dead end.
Chen Yi could see from their eyes that their aggression toward him was clearly being directed by someone else.
He chuckled coldly, loosened his limbs, and his gaze sharpened.
“Well, since you’re coming for me, if I don’t fight back now, wouldn’t that make me a coward?”
He charged forward, his twin blades taking down one zombie after another with swift, decisive movements. Yet, to these zombies, his attacks seemed almost childish, barely inflicting any real harm.
This discrepancy immediately struck Chen Yi as odd.
Had these zombies undergone another level of evolution? But their coloring clearly marked them as yellow-rank zombies, their movements still sluggish—a fact plain to see from the way they moved.
Additionally, Chen Yi noticed each zombie bore a strange mark—signs of control by the X Organization. But why had the X Organization suddenly decided to use zombies?
While he hesitated, a blue glow suddenly emanated from the zombies’ bodies, and then they stiffened, collapsing into the seawater.
“What’s going on?” Lu Kai and the others were equally shocked. “These zombies hadn’t even attacked again. Why did they all just drop dead? Is there another secret at play?”
After a moment’s thought, Chen Yi quickly grasped the situation. “These must be Freezing Zombies!”
“What’s a Freezing Zombie? Boss, you’d better explain!”
Chen Yi nodded. “This is likely a new experiment by the X Organization—using zombies that have died once already as test subjects. Of course, this kind of research is incredibly dangerous; the slightest mistake could cost everyone their lives. But in their madness to achieve their ambitions, the organization has conducted all sorts of inhuman experiments. I imagine even among their own ranks, casualties must be high by now.”
Lu Kai, Hu Sanhan, and Harris all despised the X Organization’s methods, but hearing about mass killings still left them deeply unsettled.
At times like this, they felt an even greater hatred for those bastards, as if only tenfold vengeance would suffice.
“Boss!” Lu Kai thumped his chest, his eyes resolute. “Leave this to me. I swear—”
Chen Yi shook his head, cutting him off. “There’s no need for promises. Any rash action now could cost lives. It’s not the right time.”
“But I can’t just stand by and watch these tragedies unfold—”
“Who says we’re just watching?” Chen Yi’s gaze turned bright and lively. He patted Lu Kai’s shoulder, smiling.
“In times like these, we can turn their strength against them. If the X Organization can create Freezing Zombies, then we can use similar scientific means to change the zombies’ target.”
This idea left Lu Kai stunned.
“Boss, your mind really works like a walking think tank. I’m seriously impressed!”
“Enough!” Chen Yi interrupted him. “I’m going to check on your sisters-in-law. Head to the new island—Sicilia. I hadn’t planned on going there, but now, I’ve changed my mind.”
When Chen Yi arrived at Yun Xi and Chen Yaxi’s side, both women breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed their earlier anxiety had been somewhat unfounded.
“What’s wrong?” Chen Yi saw their worried looks and couldn’t help but laugh. “Were you afraid something might happen to me?”
“Of course,” Chen Yaxi stuck out her tongue. “My sister and I were thinking about bringing the warship over to help you!”
Chen Yi was deeply moved, but quickly grew serious again.
“I’m fine, but I need to talk to you about the Freezing Zombies.”
“Freezing Zombies?” Chu Yunxi and Chen Yaxi were both taken aback.
They knew that whenever they couldn’t see him, Chen Yi always seemed to land in some unexpected trouble.
And sure enough, he’d encountered something akin to the ‘freezing disease.’
Being an outstanding scholar, Chu Yunxi quickly formed a theory after a moment’s thought. “No need to ask—this must be the work of the X Organization, right?”
“Exactly,” Chen Yi nodded.
He recounted all the dangers that had arisen.
In fact, since encountering the Freezing Zombies, it had become clear to him that some sort of pact had been reached between the zombies and the X Organization. He hadn’t told Lu Kai or Hu Sanhan, hoping to spare them unnecessary worry.
“Roar!”
Chen Yaxi, ever the mischievous one, immediately winked.
“Brother, you’re so bad. You’re actually planning to dump all the trouble on my sister and me at a time like this!”
“Isn’t it because you’re my most trusted confidantes?”
Saying this, Chen Yi turned his thoughts back to the Freezing Zombies.
“The zombies now possess intelligence. It wouldn’t make sense for them to be manipulated so easily. There’s only one possibility—some kind of mutual agreement, a deal with clear benefits for both sides.”
“What sort of benefit could zombies want?” Chen Yaxi stroked her chin, a look of puzzlement in her eyes. “I really don’t get why the people from the X Organization keep stirring up trouble. Don’t they find it tedious? The outcome is already set, isn’t it?”
“Set, but not set in stone,” Chen Yi replied coldly.
“We’ve all been mistaken. There are some things in this world that are governed not by ability, but by will—by desire or reluctance. Zombies are no different from humans in that regard; they can be just as selfish.”
Chu Yunxi agreed, though she had her own perspective.
“The concept of Freezing Zombies comes from the X Organization’s theory that, like humans with the freezing disease, zombies could be revived again and again. That’s the key point we’ve missed!”
Chen Yi was instantly awakened by her words.
“What you just said hit me like a bolt of lightning—thank you, my dear, for helping me see clearly!”
Yawning, Chen Yaxi seemed a bit bored.
“You two go ahead and show off your affection—I’m going to get some rest.”
“Not so fast!” Chen Yi caught hold of the little troublemaker.
“I need your hovercraft to help me wipe out those Freezing Zombies. They’re not just waiting for the next activation—they’re using this time to awaken new powers!”
“What!” Chu Yunxi shivered involuntarily.
“What do you mean? Are you saying someone’s using scientific technology to empower them behind the scenes?”
