Chapter 93: Refining the Nightmare, Awakening (5)
On the city walls, Yan Chuan stared coldly at Nightmare across from him.
The two armies faced one another. Siege engines stood ready, yet Yan Chuan’s own forces kept pouring forth without end, for within this dream, Mingzhou City had already fallen under his control. So long as Yan Chuan set pen to paper, he could conjure an endless host.
The army outside the city could not break in at all.
“Report! Great Han has invaded three more of our cities!”
“Report! Great Tang has invaded six more of our cities!”
In the dream, time was only a blurred notion. Messages that should have taken a month, or several months, to arrive now came in one after another without pause.
Defeat reports kept flooding in, as though they would not grant Nightmare even a moment to breathe.
“No, impossible! Impossible!” Nightmare cried out in panic.
“Report! The imperial capital of the Great Dream Dynasty has been occupied by Great Qin!” another scout wailed.
“What?” Nightmare swayed, a wave of dizziness striking him.
“Report! Great Tang troops have appeared fifty li to the west!”
“Report! Great Zhao forces have appeared forty li to the south!”
The dire reports only grew more numerous. Before Mingzhou City had even been taken, the armies of eight nations had already surrounded it from every side.
The host of the eight kingdoms advanced slowly, and clouds of dust could already be seen rolling in from all directions.
“No, no!” Nightmare roared in disbelief.
“Kill!”
Yan Chuan gave a thunderous command.
At once, the city gates of Mingzhou swung open, and large numbers of troops poured out from within, joining hands with the armies of the eight nations and slaughtering the sparse enemy forces from both front and rear. In an instant, the encircled troops were being annihilated.
“How can this be? State Preceptor, what do we do now?” The Emperor of the Great Dream Dynasty seemed to have regained a bit of clarity, and he cried out in terror.
What could Nightmare do? After all, this was Yan Chuan’s dream. He himself was merely an outsider. When Yan Chuan had not yet learned to control the dream, he could stir it into chaos at will. But now Yan Chuan’s will was unshakably firm, and Nightmare’s power could no longer intervene.
“Kill!”
A million troops charged forward, and the last remnants of the Great Dream Dynasty’s strength were utterly incapable of resisting.
The fierce onslaught swept through them, and in the blink of an eye they were on the verge of complete extermination.
Yan Chuan stood upon the city wall, gazing coldly at the slaughter below.
Warfare on the battlefield was where Yan Chuan excelled most, and in a dream, he was naturally all the more unstoppable.
The Great Dream Dynasty had been entirely brought under Yan Chuan’s control.
Yan Chuan fixed Nightmare with a hard stare. Around Nightmare, cries of battle rang out, yet none dared rush before him.
With the Great Dream Dynasty falling, Nightmare knew that every one of his arrangements had already failed.
“In this dream... even I have a day of defeat? I am Nightmare, after all!” he said bitterly.
“Yan Chuan, I cannot do anything to you, and you cannot do anything to me either!” Nightmare said with hatred.
With that, he leapt into the sky and fled toward the south.
“Hmph. Before, you could still escape by borrowing the power of dream-merging. But now that the Great Dream Dynasty has been destroyed and this dream is entirely under my control, you think you can leave?” Yan Chuan’s eyes flashed wide.
A resounding dragon’s roar burst forth from his gaze.
A colossal golden dragon, a thousand zhang long, surged out in an instant. Within the dream, Yan Chuan’s dragon of will was like a living entity, its majesty boundless and its power unmatched.
Nightmare, fleeing in midair, turned back—and at once saw that overbearing golden dragon.
“Refining spirit to return to emptiness? You are an expert of the Void realm? Impossible, how could you be of the Void realm?” Nightmare screamed.
The golden dragon struck.
With one sweep of its claws, it seized Nightmare, leaving him nowhere to escape. Then it flew back and coiled around Yan Chuan’s body.
