Chapter 81: Wolf (1)
Chapter Twenty-Four: Wolves
Within the dream.
“Who am I? Why am I here?” Yan Chuan pondered in a haze.
All around him was a grand hall. At the head of the hall sat two elderly figures, one to the left and one to the right, while the hall was filled with guests brimming with laughter and joy.
Yan Chuan stood at the center, clad in the robes of a groom. Beside him stood a bride, her face veiled.
“Who am I?” Yan Chuan tried desperately to remember.
Yet, no matter how hard he tried, the memory eluded him.
“It’s time for the ceremony! Why are the bride and groom just standing there?”
“They must be too happy and have forgotten what to do!”
“Young Master Yan is truly fortunate, marrying Miss Mo, the most beautiful woman in the Kingdom of Grand Dreams! Truly a match made in heaven!”
“The Yan and Mo families are perfectly suited—what a destined union!”
Joyful voices and well-wishes rang out from the guests around them.
Through this chorus of blessings, the two newlyweds gradually gained a vague understanding of who they were. This sudden “amnesia” seemed to help them quickly accept their roles, as if a dry sponge had met water, soaking up and settling into their new identities almost instantly.
And in dreams, one always believes everything is real.
“The ceremony must begin! Quickly now!” urged the master of ceremonies, jolting the dazed couple to attention.
“Yes!” Yan Chuan and Mo Yuxi nodded, still lost in confusion but willing to comply.
“First, bow to the heavens and earth!” the master of ceremonies proclaimed loudly.
Yan Chuan and Mo Yuxi instinctively bowed toward heaven and earth.
“Second, bow to the elders!” the master declared.
They turned and paid their respects to the two elders seated at the head of the hall.
“Master Yan, what good fortune you have!”
“Yes, Master Yan, Madam Yan—soon you’ll be holding a grandchild in your arms!”
Laughter and blessings filled the air, stretching smiles across the faces of the elders. “Excellent, excellent!” they exclaimed in delight.
“Now, bow to each other as husband and wife!” the master called once more.
Yan Chuan and Mo Yuxi faced each other, a lingering haze in their eyes mingling with a quiet joy, and bowed. At that moment, a strange feeling stirred in both their hearts.
“The ceremony is complete!” the master announced.
With a crackling burst, firecrackers exploded outside.
“Congratulations, congratulations!”
“May the couple soon be blessed with children!”
The entire hall swelled with the sounds of celebration, congratulation, and joy.
“Escort them to the bridal chamber!” the master called.
Surrounded by a cluster of maids and servants, the newlyweds slowly made their exit.
“Let the feast begin!” Master Yan announced.
The atmosphere grew even more jubilant.
Yan Chuan and Mo Yuxi were led to the bridal chamber.
“The bride will wait here; the groom will go toast the guests,” the master explained.
“Very well,” both Yan Chuan and Mo Yuxi replied, still somewhat bewildered.
After the groom departed, the bride remained in the chamber accompanied by her maids.
“Congratulations, Miss!” the maids cheered.
“I…” Mo Yuxi still felt a sense of strangeness.
“Miss, Young Master Yan is truly a good man. You have finally gotten your wish! The Yan family has been doctors for generations, and our family has been in the medicine trade for just as long. Truly a perfect match!” the maid said happily.
“Yes,” Mo Yuxi nodded, as if she half-remembered, half-heard it for the first time.
Outside, a young servant accompanied Yan Chuan.
“Master, this is your uncle. Offer him a toast first. He is the Deputy Minister of Rites at court and has always helped our family,” the servant introduced.
“Very well,” Yan Chuan nodded.
With each round of toasts, Yan Chuan came to know “his family” one by one.
