Chapter 59: The Netherworld Demon Rabbit (3)
The giant white rabbit turned around, but what stood there could no longer be called a rabbit at all.
Its face had taken on a grotesquely human, or rather, demonic form. Two lantern-sized, crimson eyes burned above a visage wreathed in black mist; as its mouth yawned open, rows of jagged, saw-like fangs gleamed within.
Creak, creak!
The rabbit emitted a chilling screech—a sound made by the grinding of its upper and lower teeth, like two massive saws rasping against each other, sending shivers down the spine of all who heard it.
"Help me!" the little officer trapped in the rabbit's grasp screamed again and again.
Irritated, the monstrous rabbit turned its gaze to the man in its palm. Its maw split into a grin—a smile that, the officer was certain, was the most horrifying he had ever seen in his life.
A rabbit’s smile—too terrifying to endure.
But he had little time to dwell on this. The rabbit lifted him to its mouth.
"No!" the officer shrieked in terror.
Crunch!
Like a carrot, the officer was bitten cleanly in two. Blood spattered everywhere, the scene grotesquely bloody.
Slurp, slurp, slurp!
The giant rabbit savored its human-shaped carrot, mouth twisting as it chewed half the officer’s body with relish.
Cannibalism?
These soldiers had killed countless foes, but none had ever witnessed such a scene—a being devoured as if it were a mere vegetable. Even the most battle-hardened among them felt their legs weaken and their stomachs churn at the sight.
Chomp!
Slurp, slurp, slurp!
The other half of the officer was gulped down as well, the monstrous rabbit’s face alight with delight.
"The Yellow Spring Rabbit Demon? Is that what this is?" Yang Zhijiu’s expression was grim.
"It’s beginning, isn’t it?" Master Wenruo said, brows furrowed.
In the distance, the giant rabbit, unsated by its first meal, looked again toward the Green Scarf Army. Greed flashed in its crimson eyes.
Boom! With a single bound, the rabbit landed close to the Green Scarf soldiers.
"No, stay back—stay back!" some of the men shouted in terror.
"Fire! Fire your arrows!" Zhao Kunwu cried, voice trembling.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
A hail of arrows shot forth.
But this was no ordinary rabbit any longer. It had become a Yellow Spring Rabbit Demon, transformed by the yellow liquid.
Hundreds of arrows struck its fur—only to be rebounded harmlessly.
Boom! Boom!
The rabbit barreled forward, its massive arm sweeping scores of soldiers aside. With a single hand, it snatched up two Green Scarf men.
"No, don’t eat me!"
"Help!"
The two cried desperately, but the rabbit demon paid them no heed—it did not listen to the pleas of ‘carrots.’
Crunch!
Slurp, slurp, slurp!
Crunch!
Slurp, slurp, slurp!
The gnawing and chewing of ‘carrots’ became a relentless, nightmarish chorus.
Terror swept through the ranks as the rabbit demon feasted mercilessly upon the Green Scarf soldiers.
"Fire! Fire!"
"Retreat! Retreat!"
Panic erupted among the Green Scarf Army.
Zhao Kunwu led his men in a desperate withdrawal.
But the nightmare was only beginning.
As more yellow clouds gathered overhead, the earth seethed with increasing amounts of yellow fluid. Every rabbit that came into contact with it underwent a horrific transformation.
Across the vast grasslands—one rabbit demon, then ten, then a hundred, then a thousand appeared.
The Yellow Spring Rabbit Demons multiplied, each driven by a savage urge to attack, closing in on all living things.
"No—!"
The Green Scarf Army stared in horror as countless rabbit demons closed in from all sides.
