Chapter 33: Yan Chuan Protects His Nephew

"Yan Wudi, come again! Hahaha!" Liu Gang shouted with excitement.

Two meters away from Liu Gang, a cyan longsword hovered in the air. As Liu Gang spoke, the flying sword darted rapidly, circling him. Guided by the movements of his mind, the sword danced exactly as he willed.

King Mu Ye stood to the side, watching quietly, while nearly a hundred onlookers remained silent.

The three envoys of the Yan State wore expressions of anxiety. Yan Wudi, clutching his own purple-cyan sword, stared ahead with a solemn face.

"Come!" Yan Wudi did not retreat in the slightest.

"Whoosh!" The flying sword shot toward Yan Wudi in an instant.

"Clang!"

The purple-cyan sword and the flowing-light sword clashed with a roar. Although the flowing-light was a flying sword, its force was not significantly inferior to the purple-cyan blade.

As the two swords collided and recoiled, Liu Gang’s hands flickered through a series of gestures, expertly controlling the flowing-light to pivot and slash at Yan Wudi’s flank.

"Clang!"

Yan Wudi was also a genius of the sword arts. With a back-handed block, he managed to deflect the strike. Yet, the flying sword was incredibly treacherous; free from the limitations of a human wielder, it could strike from countless angles, and every blow was lethal.

"Clang!" "Clang!" "Clang!"

Liu Gang commanded the flying sword with blistering speed, raining down on Yan Wudi like a violent storm. Meanwhile, standing fifty paces away, he remained in an invincible position.

"Hahaha, Yan Wudi! Your sword is too short; you can’t touch me at all. It is only a matter of time before you are defeated. You might as well concede!" Liu Gang commanded the longsword with glee.

"A flying sword against a handheld blade—Yan Wudi is surely done for!"

"He can only defend; he has no way to attack Liu Gang. How could he possibly win?"

"Just admit defeat. It’s only six cities!"

The murmurs of the crowd drifted through the air.

Yan Wudi’s movements were increasingly desperate, and he had narrowly escaped death at the hands of the flying sword several times. Across the field, however, King Mu Ye narrowed his eyes.

"Born with a sword-bone? He is truly worthy of that title. He was in such a frantic state moments ago, yet he is already adapting to the flying sword? This boy is extraordinary. If he is allowed to live, he will surely become a great threat later!" A cold glint flickered in King Mu Ye’s eyes.

King Mu Ye’s finger, hidden within his sleeve, curled slightly.

"Hum!" The flying sword suddenly erupted with a dazzling cyan brilliance.

"Boom!"

"Ah!"

The flying sword unleashed power several times greater than before. With another violent collision, Yan Wudi was sent flying through the air.

"Thud!" Yan Wudi hit the ground.

"Hum!"

The flying sword instantly shot to a halt before Yan Wudi, pointing directly at his throat.

"You have lost!" Liu Gang cried out in triumph.

Yan Wudi looked at the blade hovering before his throat, his face filled with unwillingness.

"The six cities of the Southern Border—once we exit the feng shui formation, the Zheng State shall send men to collect them!"

Though his heart burned with frustration, Yan Wudi remained a man of his word.

Liu Gang waved his hand, and the flying sword immediately flew back to his side.

"Yan Wudi, now that the Yan State has lost Yan Tao, it will soon perish. Why not take me as your master? I can guarantee your Yan State a century of peace!" King Mu Ye pressed again. A natural sword-bone was, after all, an incredibly rare find.

"I have already told you, I have already pledged myself to a master!" Yan Wudi shook his head.

"And what if you have? He can, at most, protect you—he cannot protect the entire Yan State. Once Yan Tao is dead, who else is there to shelter the Yan State? As for you, by the time you become powerful enough, the Yan State will have long ceased to exist!" King Mu Ye persisted.

Yan Wudi clenched his fists. Although he knew King Mu Ye was right, his stubborn heart refused to betray his master.

"Well?" King Mu Ye stepped closer.

"Who says there is no one to protect the Yan State? My Great River Sect has always been its guardian!" A voice suddenly rang out from the crowd.
