Chapter 108: I Need to Find a Safe Place!
At first, Qin Feng judged that his target was only seven or eight meters away. The man looked like a savage beast, advancing a step while watching three, his movement light and elusive, making him hard to pin down, impossible to tell where he would plant his foot next.
Qin Feng did not rush to act. Instead, he waited patiently, imagining himself to be part of the surrounding forest, merged completely with the wilderness. He did not leak the slightest trace of presence; his breath was fully restrained, his whole body hidden there in silence.
The enemy was moving swiftly through the undergrowth. Qin Feng watched the distance narrow: ten meters, nine, eight... three meters. The man advanced quickly, and even the place where he stopped was chosen with cunning precision, making him difficult to aim at and even harder to strike. But Qin Feng remained patient. He knew very well that this enemy was formidable. Only by being careful could he have a chance to kill him, only by being careful could he survive.
"Calm down. Stay calm." Qin Feng kept telling himself. He knew only calmness could give him enough patience, a clear mind, and the best chance to eliminate the enemy.
Then Qin Feng noticed a pebble about the size of a baby in the grass beside him. A flash of inspiration lit his mind. He quietly picked it up. He felt it was a good way to fight this enemy.
Soon, the target stopped, just two meters away. He continued scanning his surroundings, apparently still unaware that Qin Feng was hidden in the bushes.
"This is a good chance." Qin Feng knew he could not let such an opportunity slip away. He struck decisively.
Whoosh. The pebble in his hand shot out at once, screaming through the air. Qin Feng's throw was fast. The stone cut through the air with a sharp whistling sound, sounding powerful enough to be dangerous. In an instant, it struck the target in the eye.
"Ah! My eye! Something hit my eye!" The target let out a shriek and immediately clutched his face before collapsing to the ground.
Tat-tat-tat! At the same time, the enemy fired rapidly. He seemed to be carrying an automatic weapon, and without hesitation he sprayed bullets toward the place where Qin Feng might be hiding. In an instant, debris flew everywhere and the area was thrown into chaos.
After striking, Qin Feng had no time to see the result. He turned and ran at once. Before he had gone only four or five steps, he heard a burst of extremely dense gunfire. Not daring to be careless, he sprang like a tiger, rolled his body, and in a flash concealed himself in another patch of bushes. Then he crouched low and withdrew quickly.
"This patch of brush isn't safe anymore. I need to find a safe place, or I'll be shot full of holes by that bastard's bullets." Qin Feng thought grimly. He knew he could not linger here; otherwise, the enemy would sweep this whole area from end to end.
Tat-tat-tat! As expected, although the enemy had one eye blinded by the pebble, the other eye still seemed to work. He continued firing wildly in all directions, as if he meant to destroy everything around him. At the same time, a fierce killing intent filled the air. The temperature around them seemed to plunge dozens of degrees in an instant, as though they had been thrown into a thousand-year glacier, cold to the bone.
"Good thing I hid quickly. Otherwise I would have been in real danger." Qin Feng had already anticipated this move, so his retreat had been decisive and resolute, and he had swiftly escaped the danger zone.
He then crawled toward a thick clump of weeds outside the bushes. The weeds were as tall as a grown man and incredibly dense; even if dozens of people were hidden inside, they would not be discovered. Qin Feng would be safe there.
"There is no absolutely safe place on the battlefield. I need to stay careful and be ready for danger at any moment." Qin Feng remembered what Su Yun had told him. He became more alert, scanning his surroundings warily. He knew he was on a battlefield now, with enemies all around. He had to be careful. Only then could he kill the enemy. Only then could he live better.
And only by living could he see Su Yun again.
Suddenly, Qin Feng spotted a snake as thick as a baby in the grass. It was moving slowly, but in truth it was very fast, and it seemed ready to launch a sudden attack on him. Qin Feng reacted with lightning speed, and with his right hand he grabbed it in an instant. "What kind of snake is this? It looks poisonous."
After examining it closely, Qin Feng was about to throw it away when something suddenly occurred to him. He felt he could use the venomous snake to attack the enemy.
So he transferred the snake to his left hand, slung his rifle back into place, and with his right hand swiftly scooped up a clump of mud from the ground. He lay hidden in the grass, waiting carefully for his chance, ready to strike at any moment and kill the enemy.
Tat-tat-tat! The enemy continued spraying the area with gunfire, as if he wanted to destroy everything in sight. It was terrifying.
"I don't believe you have that much ammunition. Let's see how long you can keep this up." Qin Feng thought to himself. He understood that the enemy was conducting a suppressive fire search, but he also knew the man did not have much ammunition. Such wide-area fire consumed bullets quickly, and if he kept it up, he might run dry. Then the enemy would find it hard to attack with a gun.
Sure enough, after a while the enemy stopped shooting and no longer continued his sweep. Instead, he began carefully observing the surroundings.
"I know you're still there." Qin Feng thought. He knew the enemy was still nearby. Extremely cautious, he slowly poked his head out and, through the grass, caught sight of a man wearing camouflage gear moving faintly in his direction while carefully searching for him, intent on finding him and wiping him out.
"Your firepower is impressive, and you want to kill me. Fine, then let me show you what it feels like to be bitten by a venomous snake." Seeing the enemy draw near, Qin Feng knew this was a good chance. With his right hand he hurled the clump of mud, and immediately afterward he threw the venomous snake as well. Once that was done, he turned and ran at full speed.
When the enemy heard the sound, he instinctively looked over. Just as he was about to fire, he suddenly saw a lump of mud flying toward him. Startled, he dodged quickly, but failed to notice that a venomous snake had also been thrown at him.
In an instant, the snake struck his body.
"Ah! My... it hurts..." The man in camouflage let out a miserable scream. The snake had bitten him. He rolled madly on the ground, flattening swathes of grass beneath him. His screams grew even more shrill, carrying far through the forest.
Flutter! A flock of birds was startled into flight by the cries and hurried away.
