Chapter 26: The Scandal Involving the Team Physician of the U.S. National Gymnastics Team Explodes
"Boss, there’s a new development in the Rex case!"
Raphael found Chen Siyuan bright and early, unable to suppress the excitement on his face.
"What is it?"
"That guy Rex knows a team doctor for the national gymnastics team named Larry. They often shared their 'experiences' with each other. According to Rex, this Dr. Larry has abused hundreds of gymnasts over the last dozen years!"
Chen Siyuan remembered. That was a piece of human trash who didn't even spare his own daughter!
Chen Siyuan pondered for a moment, then waved his hand. "Dig deep! The case is yours."
Since he had already sent Weinstein off to "sew mailbags" early, what was one more team doctor? This was a virtuous deed of the highest order. Sending that bastard away now could save how many innocent young gymnasts?
"Boss, I won't let you down!" Raphael was trembling with excitement. He thought of Adams Gibson, who brought down Weinstein, and other predecessors who had handled major cases and gone on to strike out on their own. They were all titans in the legal world now. Finally, it was his turn.
"Raphael, I have the contact information for the relevant officials at the National Sports Commission and the Olympic Committee. You can reach out to them directly."
This was where Chen Siyuan's connections truly shone. From high-ranking officials to common street peddlers, he had ties everywhere.
"Thank you, Boss! I'm going now!"
Just as Raphael was about to leave, Chen Siyuan called him back.
"Wait."
"Boss?" Raphael looked puzzled.
"This is a massive scandal for them. Not only will they have no intention of dealing with that team doctor, they will do everything in their power to cover it up."
Raphael frowned, thoughtful.
"So, the contacts I gave you are just for show—to provide you with a legitimate reason to get your foot in the door. You’ll need to find another way to actually break the case."
Raphael lifted his head, his eyes beginning to gleam.
"For the specifics, go ask Adams. He has plenty of experience handling these kinds of things."
"Boss, I know what to do!"
Raphael left the office, electrified. For many families, this news would be a nightmare, but for Raphael, it was the capital he needed to make a name for himself.
The key was that they were on the side of justice; Raphael was punishing evil and promoting good, acting on behalf of heaven. While such cases were troublesome and carried the risk of offending powerful people, the elite lawyers trained by Chen Siyuan were all cunning experts. The end result would be a win-win.
Raphael lacked a bit of experience, but with Adams' help, it would be no problem. After sitting in his office for a while longer, Chen Siyuan left the firm for Chinatown. For him, the most important thing right now was finding a reliable cook. The "Old Swindler" should be good at such matters.
He entered the Old Swindler’s courtyard with practiced ease.
"Why are you here again?" The old man’s impatient voice rang out the moment he stepped through the gate.
"Old Swindler, I need a cook for my pregnant wife. Introduce me to one, will you?" Chen Siyuan didn't stand on ceremony, pulling up a chair and making his request.
"Am I your father or your grandfather? Why do you come to me with such trivial matters!"
"You're not my father, but you are the grandfather of my unborn brat!"
Chen Siyuan’s brazen, shameless attitude was enough to make anyone want to punch him. However, the old man was actually moved. He sat up from his recliner in one fluid motion, eyes fixed on Chen Siyuan.
"You little swindler, are you really planning to let your son call me grandfather?"
"Of course. I probably won't be around to see you off when your time comes, but my kid might!" When Chen Siyuan said this, he felt a strange pang of sadness. Damn it, it was highly likely—no, certain—that he would die before this old man. What a tragedy!
"Seeing as you're so sincere, I'll accept this godson." The old man put on an air of indifference, but the joy in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Chen Siyuan didn't care; he returned to the point of his visit. "So, about the cook?"
"Get out of here! For the sake of my grandson, I won't hold this against you today. Don't try to pull any tricks on me in the future! I'll have a cook at your place tomorrow to feed my grandson!" The old man waved his hand impatiently, as if shooing a fly.
"You got it!" Chen Siyuan grinned, stood up, and walked away. The Old Swindler was just talking tough. Now that he had another tether to his life, he wouldn't be able to stay indifferent.
Chen Siyuan detoured to Liu Yifei’s school to pick her up.
"Dad, what are you so happy about?" Even Liu Yifei could see the undisguised joy on his face.
"Oh, nothing. I just found a godfather for your unborn little brother."
"A godfather?" Liu Yifei blinked. What was this move?
"By the way, I hired a top-tier cook today. She’ll be at our place tomorrow to start cooking!" Chen Siyuan added.
A flash of delight crossed Liu Yifei’s eyes, though as her father's "little cotton-padded jacket," she still had to consider his feelings. "Dad, the food you make is already delicious. Why do you need to hire a cook?"
"You little smarty-pants! No need to save face for your father; my cooking is only just 'passable'." Chen Siyuan looked at her through the rearview mirror with a smile, very satisfied. There was a reason they said daughters were closer to their fathers!
"Dad, I'm not lying. Your cooking is way better than Mom's." Liu Yifei continued to provide emotional value, leaving Chen Siyuan absolutely radiant.
They soon arrived home. Nicole Kidman was walking with Liu Xiaoli in the small garden. Despite looking like a wreck the night before, as if she’d been through an ordeal, she looked perfectly fine now.
"Where's the cook? Didn't you say you were going to find one today?" Nicole asked, looking behind Chen Siyuan and seeing no one.
"Found one. She'll be here tomorrow!" Chen Siyuan smiled, squeezed past Nicole, and supported Liu Xiaoli.
Liu Xiaoli blinked at him. "Why do you seem happier today than usual?"
"Xiaoli, let me tell you, I found a godfather for our son!" Chen Siyuan said triumphantly.
Liu Xiaoli was stunned. Like Liu Yifei, she didn't understand what there was to be so happy about.
"Let me tell you, that old man has real skills. Remember that set of health-cultivation exercises he taught me? I hadn't been practicing them for long before you got pregnant!" Chen Siyuan raised his eyebrows.
"Really?" Liu Xiaoli laughed in spite of herself.
Beside them, Nicole Kidman had a sudden realization: So, Jack Chen knew Chinese Kung Fu!
