Chapter 23: Chen Siyuan Plays the Hero
Since the last time Liu Yifei offered her guidance, Chen Siyuan finally stopped being so anxious and preoccupied. He began to commute to the law firm as usual.
Initially, Chen Siyuan had intended to hire a professional caregiver to look after Liu Xiaoli. However, Nicole Kidman took the initiative to take on the task herself, jokingly remarking that she was the most high-profile caregiver available. She even used the excuse that she was the godmother of the child in Liu Xiaoli’s womb. Unable to refuse her, Chen Siyuan and Liu Xiaoli agreed to Nicole’s request and even set aside a room specifically for her.
After observing for a few days, it was clear to Chen Siyuan that Nicole was genuinely putting in the effort. While she might not compare to a professional caregiver, the advantage was that she and Liu Xiaoli had a good relationship, making their time together much more pleasant. For an expectant mother, maintaining a good mood during pregnancy is of the utmost importance, so Chen Siyuan was able to return to his work with peace of mind.
Although Chen Siyuan hadn’t been paying much attention to his law firm lately, the pace of the firm’s growth through fission was beyond imagination, even with business proceeding as usual. The top-tier lawyers he had carefully cultivated were already standing on their own, spreading out like a vast, unfolding net. Nowadays, the most he did was handle minor details and bridge gaps to ensure the firm’s development remained healthy.
As usual, after finishing some routine tasks at the office, Chen Siyuan prepared to drive home. Just then, his phone rang. He picked it up to see that it was Jennifer, whom he hadn't been in contact with for a long time.
"Jen..."
"Jack, Creek Bar, hurry and save me..."
Before Chen Siyuan could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Jennifer’s urgent plea for help, followed by a dial tone. Frowning, Chen Siyuan immediately called three of his bodyguards and headed straight for Creek Bar. Having met Jennifer there in the past, he was no stranger to the place.
At this hour, the bar was not very crowded. After entering and scanning the room, Chen Siyuan didn't see a sign of Jennifer, so he immediately led his men toward the private box area on the second floor. As soon as they reached the second floor, they saw two men in black suits and sunglasses standing at the door of the largest suite.
Chen Siyuan signaled to his bodyguards. They exchanged a look and moved in with synchronized precision to surround the men. As they approached, the two men in black realized something was wrong. Just as they were about to raise an alarm, Chen Siyuan’s team launched their attack. These bodyguards were elite, highly-paid former special forces soldiers from around the world; dealing with these ordinary thugs was child's play.
In a matter of moments, the two men in black had lost their ability to resist and collapsed to the floor. Chen Siyuan walked to the door and gestured. One of the bodyguards kicked it open.
The room was bathed in dim, sultry light. On a sofa to the side, a fat man was tearing at the clothes of the woman beneath him. Hearing the door being kicked in, the man turned around, his face twisted in rage, ready to unleash a string of curses. At that moment, the face of the woman beneath him was revealed. It was Jennifer!
Chen Siyuan lunged forward, grabbed the fat man by the collar, and yanked him away.
"Ah!"
The man wasn't as strong as he looked and was thrown aside by Chen Siyuan.
"Fuck!"
Before the man could even grasp the situation, he was restrained by Chen Siyuan’s bodyguards, his bloated face pressed hard against the glass coffee table.
"Jennifer, are you okay?" Chen Siyuan took off his coat and draped it over her.
Jennifer’s face was flushed an unnatural red, and her eyes were unfocused. She had been drugged! Chen Siyuan picked her up in his arms.
"Leave one person behind to dig up everything on this pig!" Chen Siyuan’s expression was cold; he had already passed judgment on the man.
"Yes, Boss!"
One bodyguard stayed behind, while the other two followed Chen Siyuan out of the bar. As soon as Chen Siyuan got into the car with Jennifer, she began to coil around him like a seductive snake.
"Damn it, how high was the dosage?" Chen Siyuan cursed with a frown, then called a private doctor, arranging to meet at Jennifer’s mansion.
"Jack... Jack..."
Jennifer’s reason had been clouded by the drugs; she could no longer tell who the man holding her was, but she kept murmuring Chen Siyuan’s name. Chen Siyuan sighed and held her firmly in place. "Drive faster."
The scorching body writhing in his arms was a tremendous test for him, especially given how familiar she was to him. Physiological reactions were inevitable, yet Chen Siyuan, now a married man, had indeed become much more disciplined. He managed to play the role of a saint. The car soon arrived at Jennifer’s mansion; she had certainly been earning well over the past two years.
The private doctor had already arrived. It wasn't Dr. Emily, who attended to Liu Xiaoli, as he wanted to avoid any misunderstandings.
"Dr. Connie, please take a look. My friend was drugged at a bar."
After carrying Jennifer to her bedroom, Chen Siyuan finally breathed a sigh of relief. Dr. Connie was a professional and had brought two large nurses with her. Only after the nurses stepped forward to restrain the struggling Jennifer could the examination begin.
"She’s been given a high dose of ketamine. She needs her stomach pumped!"
Chen Siyuan, knowing better than to interfere with a professional, left the treatment to Dr. Connie. After a busy while, the stomach pumping was complete, and she was given an injection. Jennifer soon quieted down and fell into a deep sleep.
"Jack, there’s no problem now. She should be fine after a good sleep," Dr. Connie said after a final check, nodding with satisfaction.
"Thank you, Connie."
"I’ll be leaving then. Call me if you need anything."
Chen Siyuan walked her out of the villa. He trusted Connie and wasn't worried about her leaking any information. Returning to the bedroom, Chen Siyuan sat by the bed, watching Jennifer quietly. She had a beautiful face; although the stomach pumping had left her looking pale, it only added a touch of vulnerability to her appearance. Seeing that she still held him in her thoughts even in such a state, Chen Siyuan felt moved.
Just as he reached out to stroke her cheek, his phone rang.
"Boss, we’ve checked it out. The fat man is named Rex. He runs an import-export company, but it's a front for grey-market dealings—smuggling, human trafficking. He’s absolute scum." It was his bodyguard on the line.
"Hand the evidence over to Raphael. Let that fat man rot in hell," Chen Siyuan said, his voice dropping to a chilling tone.
"Yes, Boss!"
"Jack..."
A weak voice came from behind him. Chen Siyuan hung up and turned around. Jennifer was looking at him with teary eyes. Chen Siyuan sighed inwardly.
"Are you feeling better?"
