Before dawn, the alleys of Qingyun Town still slumbered, shrouded in a veil of mist as delicate as gossamer, gently draping itself over this ancient land. In a somewhat dilapidated courtyard on the town’s western edge, a young man was wielding his blade in the dim morning light. His movements were agile, the blade flashing with each stroke, and every swing carried an unstoppable momentum, as if determined to cleave through the oppressive silence of the world.

“I am Liu Kaixin—Kaixin, as in joy itself.” The young man sheathed his blade, sweat sliding down his cheeks to drip onto the earthen ground at his feet. “With a single blade, I could move mountains, overturn seas, vanquish monsters, subdue demons, command spirits, pluck the stars, sever rivers, topple cities, and split the heavens!” Though his voice was not loud, it rang with an unwavering resolve.

Liu Kaixin had lost his parents at a young age and was taken in by Old Li, the town’s venerable hunter. Though Li was an ordinary man, he treated Liu Kaixin as his own child—teaching him to hunt, to read, and imparting his own optimism toward life. From the moment he could reason, Liu Kaixin displayed a deep fascination with blades, often brandishing wooden swords of his own making through the mountain forests, dreaming of becoming a legendary hero.

Today marked the awakening of insects, a day, as legend would have it, when the first thunder of spring stirs the hibernating creatures beneath the earth, and the world’s spiritual energies are at their most vibrant. A subtle premonition stirred in Liu Kaixin’s heart—he sensed that this day would be the turning point of his fate.

“Kaixin, come have breakfast!” Old Li’s voice drifted from inside the house, tinged with affection.

Liu Kaixin replied, carefully returning his blade to its sheath before stepping indoors. The meal was simple: a few steamed buns, a plate of pickled vegetables, and a piping hot bowl of porridge.

“Uncle, today is the awakening of insects. I want to visit the forest outside the town,” Liu Kaixin said as he ate his bun.

Old Li frowned slightly. “The forest is dangerous. Don’t go running around, boy.”

“Uncle, I’m already grown—I can look after myself. Besides, I have this feeling that something unusual will happen in the forest today.” Liu Kaixin’s eyes sparkled with anticipation.

Old Li, seeing the determination in the young man’s gaze, sighed in resignation. “Very well, but go early and return early. And don’t go looking for trouble.”

After breakfast, Liu Kaixin slung his blade across his back and strode out the door. He followed the familiar path toward the forests beyond the town. Along the way, he saw villagers already busy with their day—some tilling the fields, others washing clothes by the river—a scene of tranquil harmony.

The moment Liu Kaixin stepped into the forest, he felt the spiritual energy in the air grow denser. He drew in a deep breath, feeling his own blood and qi stir restlessly within him. Gripping his blade tightly, he remained alert to his surroundings.

Suddenly, a deep, guttural roar echoed from the depths of the forest. Liu Kaixin’s heart tightened; this was no sound an ordinary beast could make. Without hesitation, he drew his blade and raced toward the source.

As he drew nearer, the roars grew louder, and a faint tang of blood filled the air. Pushing past a thicket of dense underbrush, Liu Kaixin was stunned by the scene before him.

A massive demon beast was locked in a standoff with an enormous python, its entire body glowing with an eerie blue light. The beast resembled a tiger, but bore three eyes and was wreathed in flames; each roar sent waves of scorching heat rippling through the air. The python, coiled tightly, flickered with blue scales that shimmered with a strange light, its tongue darting in and out as it searched for an opening to strike.

Liu Kaixin had never witnessed such formidable creatures. His heart raced uncontrollably, but his blood boiled with excitement, and his grip on the blade tightened as a fierce fighting spirit surged within him.

“No matter what you are, crossing paths with me, Liu Kaixin, today is your misfortune!” he shouted, charging into the fray blade in hand.

Neither the demon beast nor the giant python had anticipated a human’s sudden intrusion. Both fixed their hostile gazes upon Liu Kaixin.

He did not flinch. With the skills he had honed through relentless practice, he attacked the demon beast. His strikes were bold and forceful, each blow carrying the weight of a thousand pounds. The demon beast seemed daunted by his aura, roaring as it swiped its massive claws at him.

Liu Kaixin’s agile form slipped past the beast’s attack, and he seized the opportunity to swing at its paw. Sparks flew with a metallic clang, and his arm went numb from the force. He was inwardly shocked—this monster’s defenses were far beyond ordinary.

As Liu Kaixin battled the beast, the python suddenly struck, shooting toward him like a bolt of blue lightning. Sensing danger behind him, he managed to raise his blade in time as the python coiled around it, its immense strength nearly wrenching it from his grasp.

Gritting his teeth, Liu Kaixin summoned all his strength to wrestle with the python. He knew that if he lost his blade, death would surely follow.

Just as despair closed in, a clear, resounding cry echoed from the sky. A ray of multicolored light descended, dispelling the mist from the forest. A magnificent phoenix appeared, its radiant feathers shimmering with boundless power.

At the phoenix’s arrival, both the demon beast and the giant python showed terror, as though yearning to flee, yet were paralyzed by the phoenix’s overwhelming presence.

Liu Kaixin, too, was awestruck. Never had he seen such beauty or power. The phoenix glanced at him, a hint of approval in its gaze, then unfurled its wings, unleashing a surge of spiritual energy.

The wave struck the demon beast and the python, reducing them instantly to ashes. Liu Kaixin stood rooted to the spot, scarcely able to believe that the deadly battle had ended so abruptly.

The phoenix slowly alighted before him, its form shrinking until it became a woman clad in a robe of iridescent colors. Her beauty was ethereal, her eyes shining with a transcendent aura.

“What is your name?” she asked softly, looking at Liu Kaixin.

“I… I am Liu Kaixin—Kaixin, as in joy itself,” he stammered in reply.

She smiled faintly. “An interesting name. For one so young to possess such courage is truly rare.”

“You flatter me, Senior. Were it not for your timely arrival, I fear I would not have survived,” Liu Kaixin replied earnestly.

“This was your own destiny. You are fated to wield the blade, and by entering the forest on the day of awakening, you stirred the spiritual energies of heaven and earth, drawing forth this battle,” she said.

“Destiny?” Liu Kaixin echoed, uncertain.

“Indeed. All things in this world are governed by cause and effect. Your love of the blade and your courage are your destiny. I see your foundation is solid. Would you be willing to become my disciple and train under my guidance?” the woman asked.

A surge of joy overwhelmed Liu Kaixin. He immediately knelt. “Disciple Liu Kaixin is willing to follow you as my master!”

She nodded in satisfaction. “From this day forth, you are a disciple of the Phoenix Clan. My name is Feng Wu. From now on, you may call me Master.”

“Yes, Master!” Liu Kaixin replied, his voice trembling with excitement.

Feng Wu gently waved her hand, and a stream of light poured into Liu Kaixin’s body. He felt himself grow lighter, a powerful force surging within him.

“This is a gift of spiritual power from your master. You must cultivate diligently and not squander this opportunity,” Feng Wu said.

“I will always follow your teachings, Master!” Liu Kaixin replied resolutely.

Feng Wu gazed at him, her eyes full of expectation. “Remember, your blade is not only for slaying monsters and demons, but also for upholding justice and peace in this world.”

“I understand, Master!” Liu Kaixin declared loudly.

From that day, Liu Kaixin embarked on his path of cultivation. He knew the road ahead would be fraught with hardships and challenges, but he did not fear them. For he had a blade, a dream, and a powerful master. And this was only the beginning of his legendary life…
