Roxu considered himself hardly the type to stir up trouble. Compared to direct confrontation, he preferred to avoid danger and develop steadily.
But sometimes danger seeks you out, like now...
Roxu glanced at the three men and one woman opposite him, silently assessing their combat strength.
Adventurers often bear insignias on their shoulders—marks issued by the Adventurers’ Guild after evaluating their rank.
For example, the chestnut-haired man wielding a crossbow bore two silver feathers on his shoulder, signifying he was a second-tier hunter.
The other two men and woman included a female second-tier priest, a youthful-looking first-tier assassin, and a tall man whose profession was a second-tier paladin.
Observing their lineup, Roxu frowned.
Putting aside the possibility that they were hiding some strength, even their visible power represented a well-equipped adventurer squad.
They had a tank, a healer, main damage dealers, and breachers.
From Lis, Roxu also knew that priests and paladins were extremely costly professions. For the opposing team to have both meant their financial backing was strong.
Financial strength translated to superior equipment.
This enemy was formidable.
The chestnut-haired leader noticed the wariness in Roxu’s eyes and laughed heartily:
“So, after sizing us up, are you scared now?”
“Or are you and your half-orc slave here to test yourselves against us?”
“You must have struggled quite a bit killing that goblin, huh?”
As he finished speaking, he raised his crossbow, aiming it at Roxu’s head.
Threads of wind coiled and condensed around the weapon, ready to fire at any moment.
Layla hurried forward, trying to shield her master, but Roxu gripped her arm firmly.
His grave expression vanished as he smiled at the chestnut-haired man:
“Sir, this seems to be a misunderstanding. That goblin on the ground should be your prey. We, master and servant, simply made a mistake just now.”
“How about this: as an apology, we’ll cut it up, drain the blood, and pack it for you—saving you the trouble of dirtying your hands.”
Hearing this, Layla swallowed nervously and withdrew her intent to block.
She guessed what her master was planning.
The chestnut-haired man frowned upon hearing Roxu’s words.
A seasoned adventurer from Bantanda City, he instinctively felt something was off, but he couldn’t imagine what a seemingly second-tier berserker could pull off.
He glanced at the youthful first-tier assassin beside him.
A blue-haired boy, barely twelve or thirteen, with a tender face.
Noticing the man’s gaze, the boy glanced at Layla, then tiptoed to whisper in the man’s ear.
After listening, the chestnut-haired man nodded.
Then he sneered at Roxu:
“Fine. We’re in a good mood today, so we’ll spare your miserable life. You and your slave can cut up and pack that goblin, then you’re free to go.”

The meaning was clear: Roxu could leave, but Layla had to stay.
“No problem, no problem,” Roxu smiled and nodded, showing no objection.
So the pair began the dismemberment.
Cutting up a goblin was not a common sight; usually, the guild assigned someone for such tasks.
The four-person adventurer squad was also seeing this for the first time, watching the two busy themselves with some amusement.
The woman with flowing waves of hair—the priest—licked her lips as she eyed Roxu sweating profusely.
“How about keeping him too? I only want to play for one night.”
But before she finished, the blue-haired boy shot her a sharp glance.
The priest shivered and fell silent.
Two minutes later, the task was complete.
Roxu and Layla each carried bundles of the packed goblin corpses toward the group.
Layla approached the blue-haired boy, while Roxu smiled and walked toward the chestnut-haired man.
Throughout, the crossbow remained trained on Roxu’s head.
The man had a skill that roughly gauged an opponent’s tier, so he estimated Roxu to be around second-tier.
As a veteran professional adventurer, he knew a sudden outburst from a second-tier berserker could be deadly.
Though killing a goblin surely drained Roxu’s stamina, the man reckoned even a second-tier berserker would bear visible wounds after such a fight.
But Roxu showed no obvious injuries.
Only one explanation remained: the pair had relied on the half-orc slave’s transformation to kill the goblin.
Meaning Roxu had barely expended any effort and might strike suddenly when close!
This was the conclusion drawn from years of experience by the chestnut-haired man.
Confident in this judgment, he smirked inwardly.
An ordinary adventurer might fall for this, but unfortunately for Roxu, he was facing him.
If the kid didn’t know his place, he’d be sent off.
Suddenly, a thunderous roar erupted from the side, interrupting his thoughts.
What was going on?!
He turned quickly to see a silver-white giant bear standing before the blue-haired boy, its massive paws descending with overwhelming force toward the boy’s head.
Impossible! Had the half-orc not transformed when killing the goblin?!
As the bear’s claws neared the terrified boy’s head, ready to crush it, the man nearly choked, cold sweat soaking his back.
This was it. All was lost.

If the boy died, none of them would return alive.
But at the last moment, a dazzling light flared around the boy.
Clang—
The sound of metal striking claws echoed through the forest as a tall man strained to block Layla’s blow with his shield, blood trickling from his lips.
The paladin’s second-tier skill, Sacrificial Guard: pay a price to gain the protection of holy light, instantly flashing in front of an ally.
The boy was saved.
Seeing the blue-haired boy safe, the chestnut-haired man’s legs weakened, a near-death relief washing over him.
Wait, had he forgotten something...?
Realizing this, he whipped his head around, only to find Roxu standing mere inches away.
With a horrified expression, the man watched Roxu smile as he swung his iron hammer:
“Focus when you’re fighting, sir.”
The hammer came down with tremendous force. The man, in panic, couldn’t dodge and raised his hands to block.
Lightning crackled!
Crackling sounds of bones breaking followed, accompanied by the man’s agonized screams.
His crossbow clattered to the ground, immediately stomped on by Roxu.
“Retreat! Put distance first!”
Despite the searing pain and numbness, the man struggled to think clearly. If he could just create distance, there was still hope!
The half-orc’s transformation wouldn’t last long, and speed was the berserker’s weakness. Once this burst ended, Roxu would die!
Besides, Roxu had already killed a goblin—without relying on the half-orc transformation—he must be nearly exhausted!
The hunter’s second-tier skill, Swift: greatly increases agility, with extra bonuses in the forest.
Using the skill, the man’s legs were wrapped in twin whirlwinds of wind, and he sped away rapidly.
He soon left Roxu far behind.
A smile crossed his face.
Success!
All he had to do now was wait for their priest, Anna, to heal his arm, and with a spare crossbow on him, it’d soon be Roxu’s turn to be the target.
He even imagined Roxu collapsing in agony, begging for mercy after being struck by an arrow.
But the next second, his smile froze.
Roxu was charging straight at Anna, hammer in hand.
On his way, Roxu glanced back and sneered contemptuously at the chestnut-haired man.
“Everyone knows you take out the healer first in a fight.”
