Chapter Fourteen: Tanya of the Red Dragon Tower

When he heard the system notification, Luo Xiu assigned his points exactly as he had planned, without the slightest hesitation.
One point to Agility, one point to Strength, and one point to Magic.
His status panel thus became:
[Name: Luo Xiu]
[Strength: 17]
[Agility: 6]
[Constitution: 7]
[Magic: 5]
[精神抗性: 3]
[Note: The average for an adult human male is 3]
All this time, Luo Xiu had focused mainly on Strength, with Constitution as his secondary attribute.
This time, however, he had assigned one point to Agility first.
That brought his Agility roughly on par with these First-Tier Slimes.
If anything unexpected happened later and he found himself unable to win, he could at least carry Leila and run.
As for the one point assigned to Magic, Luo Xiu had not expected to receive a point for scoring his first kill on a slime. It was an unexpected bonus, and he used it to replenish the Magic he had exhausted in order to cast Dust Cloud.
The nine slimes opposite him stared at the remains of their companion scattered at Luo Xiu’s feet. They showed no fear whatsoever. Instead, they grew even more furious.
Roaring, they leapt toward him.
As the tide of crazed jellies surged toward him, Luo Xiu naturally cast Dust Cloud once more.
The nine slimes slammed heavily into the ground. Their vision was again obscured by sand and dust, but this time they seemed to realize that danger lurked within the cloud. They pressed close to one another and did not recklessly give chase.
That was, until the slime on the far left was struck painfully by a hammer. A dagger followed immediately after, slicing away a chunk of its flesh.
“Bloop, bloop!”
Pain and fury instantly overwhelmed its mind.
These low-level monsters, which normally did nothing more than wander aimlessly across the plains, clearly possessed very little intelligence. Once they felt pain, their first instinct was simply to retaliate.
Its scarlet eyes strained toward the direction of the attack, desperately trying to locate the human who had wounded it.
At last, its gaze caught a faint silhouette!
Without the slightest hesitation, the slime launched itself into a tremendous leap, bounding eight or nine meters away.
When it landed, it saw that faint silhouette again—and this time, it was somewhat closer.
“Bloop!”
It cried out excitedly, convinced that it was about to catch up.
Then it leapt again.
It pursued the silhouette for two or three exchanges like this.
Just as it was finally about to catch up, the silhouette suddenly stopped.
“This distance should do!”

Luo Xiu smiled faintly and called out to Leila, who had been waiting for this moment.
The two of them once again wielded hammer and dagger. Under the slime’s terrified gaze, they began the satisfying process of pounding it like rice cake.
“Bloop, bloop!”
The slime’s agonized cries echoed through the smoke and dust.
[Host has slain a Small Slime. Points +2]
By the time the dust settled, the slimes discovered in horror that they had lost yet another companion.
Luo Xiu, meanwhile, stood atop a fresh pile of fragments and waved provocatively at them.
Then the smoke rose again.
The same tactic began to repeat itself.
Luo Xiu killed two more slimes in succession.
He had just begun to think that he could use this method to wipe out every slime in front of him when an accident occurred as he killed the fifth.
Leila brought her hammer down hard on the fifth slime, only to feel that the impact was completely different from before.
Before she could react, an extraordinary force surged up through the hammer’s handle, sending her entire body flying from the ground.
Then an enormous pressure swept toward her, as if it would completely engulf her in the next instant.
At the critical moment, Luo Xiu leapt forward with all his strength, plunged his dagger viciously into the slime before him, and seized Leila with his other hand.
“Leila, let go of the hammer!”
Leila immediately released it. The hammer was swallowed by the slime in an instant.
Only then did Luo Xiu and Leila clearly see the monster before them.
This was no longer the two-meter-tall slime they had been fighting. The creature before them stood at least four meters high, like an upright city gate.
Luo Xiu’s scalp tightened.
After killing several of them in succession, he had forgotten that these slimes had split off from a Second-Tier Slime.
He had never expected them to return to their Second-Tier form.
Luo Xiu instantly drove his feet into the ground, pushing off hard in an attempt to widen the distance.
But he was simply too close.
Although this Second-Tier Slime moved slowly, the speed of its attacks was terrifying.
As the transparent mass towering over four meters surged toward him with earth-shaking force, Luo Xiu felt his heart pound violently and adrenaline flood through his body.
Points! Points! Points!
The three points he had just earned from killing three slimes were instantly assigned to Agility.
His Agility rose to 9.
Luo Xiu felt his body grow lighter, and the speed of his steps suddenly increased.
At last, he escaped before the Second-Tier Slime could swallow him.
But suddenly, a Small Slime that seemed to have been waiting nearby for just such an opportunity lunged at him.
Luo Xiu hurriedly changed direction, but its bite still grazed his arm.

Hiss!
Thin wisps of white smoke immediately rose from Luo Xiu’s hand.
This was the corrosive effect unique to slime mucus.
Fortunately, the injury was limited to his arm. Luo Xiu did not slow down and ran clear of the slimes’ encirclement.
Held in his grasp, Leila saw that her master had been injured and was deeply worried. Yet she did not dare make a sound, afraid of distracting him and causing him further trouble.
She could only think that Luo Xiu had been hurt because of her, and guilt filled her heart as her eyes reddened.
Though Luo Xiu was drenched in sweat, an encouraging smile appeared on his face.
He looked down at Leila and said with a smile, “Hold on tight, Leila. We’re speeding up now.”
The moment he finished speaking, he sprang forward and burst out of the cloud of dust.
Looking back at the slimes, still wandering blindly within the smoke, Luo Xiu quietly exhaled in relief.
Unless something unexpected happened, they should be safe for the time being.
His Agility was 9, while even the fastest First-Tier Slime behind him had an Agility of only 6.
When all was said and done, he had simply been too greedy. He had wanted to kill a few more slimes and gather more points, which was why he had been injured.
Feeling the waves of pain radiating from his arm, Luo Xiu warned himself that he would have to be more careful next time.
He then ran swiftly toward the eastern gate of Wheel Town.
The kingdom’s troops stationed in Wheel Town were based at the eastern gate.
As long as he delivered the news that the slimes were about to attack the town, his mission would be considered complete.
Once the town had settled down again, he would be able to resume his peaceful interactions with his old friends, the goblins.
After that intimate encounter with the slimes, Luo Xiu now missed his old companions terribly.
A battle where every punch struck flesh and drew blood—that was a true contest between men!
Behind him, the slimes began roaring again.
But Luo Xiu was no longer as tense as before.
He treated their cries as the final music accompanying his escape that night, his figure darting back and forth along the boundary between the plains and the jungle.
Yet before long, his brisk footsteps came to a halt.
A tall figure stood blocking his path.
It was a woman with striking crimson hair. She appeared to be two heads taller than Luo Xiu, who himself stood over six feet tall, and possessed an exceptionally massive frame.
The woman wore an extremely revealing breastplate and shorts, leaving broad expanses of brown skin exposed.
The taut, flowing lines of muscle across her body proclaimed her extraordinary strength.
The outline of six abdominal muscles could even be seen faintly across her stomach.
Most striking of all was the pair of enormous breasts bound tightly beneath her breastplate, yet still so exaggeratedly prominent that Luo Xiu drew a deep breath.
Of course, her figure was not the only reason he inhaled sharply.
He had also guessed the woman’s name.
The Red Dragon, Tasanya.
