Chapter 5: Don’t Obstruct Our View
Without a second thought, Bai Ningbing knew this deal was a guaranteed win.
She immediately agreed to Su Tian’s request. “Alright, I will arrange the best hospital room and medication for Auntie. You don’t have to worry about that.”
Though she didn’t understand why her grandfather treated Su Tian with such deference, it was clear he was more than just a skilled doctor.
“Miss Bai, I have some matters to attend to. I’ll leave things in your hands here,” Su Tian said.
Bai Ningbing nodded and watched as Su Tian turned and walked away.
“That guy… isn’t bad-looking,” she thought. Su Tian wasn’t just average; he was somewhat handsome. After so much time in prison and the intense training from his old man, Su Tian’s physique was impeccable, though he still looked a bit sun-darkened.
Her grandfather’s illness had reached a turning point.
Since leaving the hospital, Su Tian had been busy handling family affairs. Most pressing was the matter of Xue Xue. He wanted answers—why did she do what she did? Why did she slander him, causing him to suffer five years of undeserved punishment? He had asked his father before—in those circumstances, when others had attacked, his actions were self-defense. Yet Qin Tian and his men faced no consequences.
The worst part was Xue Xue’s claim that he had started the fight, which led to their family paying over a million yuan in compensation.
Su Tian’s family was never wealthy; a sum that large was beyond their means. One could only imagine how helpless and tormented his father must have felt at the time, bearing the weight of the family’s burdens.
“Xue Xue, Qin Tian, this isn’t over,” Su Tian vowed.
He arrived at Xue Xue’s home, but before entering the compound, he noticed numerous luxury cars parked outside, each adorned with flowers and red ribbons on their side mirrors—clear signs of a wedding celebration.
Without hesitation, Su Tian went inside.
What struck him sharply was the bright red character for “happiness” pasted on Xue Xue’s door. She was an only child; the bride must be Xue Xue herself.
She was getting married?
Standing there in his current attire, Su Tian looked out of place at Xue Xue’s home. Strangers might have mistaken him for a guest.
But today, Xue Xue was marrying the young master of the Qin family. No matter how poor, he thought, no one would show up dressed like this.
“Sir, please step aside. The bride is about to come out,” a man nearby said.
Su Tian grabbed the man’s arm. The man winced in pain and was about to curse him, but seeing the murderous look in Su Tian’s eyes, he swallowed his words. “Wh-what do you want?”
“Who is Xue Xue marrying?”
The man gave him a look as if he were insane. “Qin Tian, the eldest son of the Qin family.”
Su Tian released him and strode inside.
“Is this guy crazy? Who doesn’t know Xue Xue is marrying Young Master Qin?” someone whispered.
“Tch, looks like trouble. Let’s just watch from a distance; it’s none of our business,” another said.
In the living room, Su Tian saw a crowd gathered around Xue Xue and Qin Tian, playing games—likely part of the wedding ritual.
But when someone spotted Su Tian, a voice cried out, “Isn’t that Su Tian?”
All eyes turned to him.
His expression darkened as he stepped into the center.
Qin Tian and Xue Xue sat on the sofa. When Qin Tian saw Su Tian, he slowly stood up with a mocking smile.
“Su Tian? You’re actually out?”
Su Tian’s gaze bypassed Qin Tian and fixed instead on Xue Xue behind him.
“I expected you to get married, but I never thought the one you’d marry would be him.”
Qin Tian sneered. “Ha! Su Tian, who do you think you are? Xue Xue isn’t marrying me for nothing. Did you really think she’d ever marry you? Dream on. You’re just a fool, you know that?”
Only then did Su Tian turn to look at Qin Tian squarely. “What do you mean by that?”
“Do you really think Xue Xue has feelings for you?”
Xue Xue looked uncomfortable, clearly unwilling to let Qin Tian expose the truth. “Enough, Qin Tian. Don’t waste your breath on someone like him. He’s just a toad lusting after a swan. You went to prison; you think you can still be with me? What a delusion.”
After her words, others followed suit with scornful remarks.
“Exactly. Who is Su Tian to deserve Xue Xue? I always said it was a mismatch. Xue Xue was the school beauty; how could she like someone like Su Tian?”
“I thought so too. Their relationship was the talk of the school. Su Tian’s just unlucky—angry and reckless for his love, he provoked the Qin family. What good could come of that?”
Su Tian’s gaze fixed on Xue Xue. Five years in prison, he often thought of his fiancée. But after hearing his mother’s words, he felt nothing for her now.
All he wanted was the truth.
“Why?”
Perhaps others didn’t understand what Su Tian meant, but Qin Tian and Xue Xue knew all too well.
Qin Tian stepped forward, ignoring Xue Xue’s attempt to hold him back.
“That’s why I say you’re a fool. Xue Xue was lying to you. She never liked you. Otherwise, why would she accuse you of starting the fight and make your family pay so much? Your father died trying to cover your debts. I thought your mother wouldn’t live to see you come home. She’s lucky to be alive.”
Hatred was evident in Su Tian’s eyes. “The thugs who came to harass my family—did you send them?”
At this point, Qin Tian had nothing left to hide.
He nodded. “Yes, I did. I told them to check on your mother when they had time. Otherwise, if something happened to her, who would notify you? You’d have no idea where your mother was buried. How pitiful.”
Su Tian clenched his fists tightly.
The room was noisy, but only Su Tian heard Qin Tian’s words.
The other guests, seeing Su Tian linger, jeered and mocked him.
“Su Tian, today is Xue Xue and Young Master Qin’s wedding. What are you doing here?”
“Exactly. If you’re powerless, don’t blame Xue Xue for being with someone else. What sense does that make?”
“Young Master Qin has the family background and the money. He even bought a villa downtown as their wedding home. If Xue Xue married you, could she have this kind of life?”
“Su Tian, you should leave before you embarrass yourself. Do you know how much the bride price was? Over six million yuan. You probably can’t even cough up six thousand.”
While the crowd mocked, Qin Tian carried a glass of wine over and stood before Su Tian.
“Su Tian, actually, I could overlook the past and even offer you a job. Our company needs a restroom cleaner. I could pay you 3,000 yuan a month. But since your family owes me over a million, I won’t pay you a cent. Consider it debt repayment.”
Before Su Tian could respond, Xue Xue spoke harshly.
“Su Tian, it’s over between us. Today is my wedding to Qin Tian. What right do you have to speak of marriage with me? You don’t even deserve to attend my wedding. Get lost and stop spoiling the view!”
