Chapter 27: You Are Asking for It
Luo Yunhe felt a warmth spread through her heart as Su Jingxuan stood up to protect her. However, seeing Su Ruyi’s hand about to strike Su Jingxuan’s face, she unhesitatingly lifted her leg and kicked straight at Su Ruyi’s stomach.
Su Ruyi had never expected such a sneak attack. The pain in her abdomen caused her to double over like a curled shrimp.
"Su Ruyi, are you pushing your luck?"
Luo Yunhe stepped forward, cast a cold glance at Su Ruyi, and then turned to look at Su Jingxuan.
"Why are you standing there like a fool? If she wants to hit you, let her! People like them only learn when they’re beaten into submission."
"Luo Yunhe, you bitch! It was you who sold me and my mother to that limping man in the next village! How could you be so heartless as to commit such a wicked act?"
Luo Yunhe retorted, "Oh, please. Don’t you dare frame me. I didn’t sell you. If you want to accuse me, show me some proof!"
"You..."
Mother Su rushed over, unleashing a torrent of vitriol.
"Su Jingxuan, let me tell you, you must divorce this cursed little slut today! If you don’t, don’t blame me for being heartless—I’ll beat you to death! She actually engaged in human trafficking; our Su family cannot tolerate such vile behavior!"
"That’s right! Big brother, for the sake of our past, we are giving you this one chance. Divorce her and kick her out!"
Su Shan stepped out, looking coldly at Luo Yunhe and Su Jingxuan.
"Oldest son, do you know what would have happened to your mother and sister if I had arrived even a moment later? A woman as wicked as her—do you still want to keep her by your side?" Su Shan said, his tone full of grief and indignation.
"Father, Mother, sob... Big brother has changed. He doesn’t care if we live or die. He brought back such a wicked woman, and she tried to sell me off. I almost lost my virtue. I can’t go on living like this..." Su Ruyi began to head toward the wall, acting as if she were going to ram her head into it.
Seeing her daughter’s actions, Mother Su immediately held her back. "My child! If you die, how are your father and I supposed to go on living?"
"Old man, this matter must be settled today!" Mother Su looked at Old Man Su.
"You keep insisting that I sold you—do you have any evidence? How did I sell you, and how did I contact this so-called 'limping man'? You can't just dump your filth on someone else’s head like that," Luo Yunhe said, watching them scurry about like clowns.
"Father, Mother, what on earth happened today? My wife and I were out all morning. We return to find you making such a racket and pinning such a huge accusation on her. If you don’t explain the full sequence of events, how do you expect me to believe you?"
"Big brother, didn’t you know? She drugged us and sold us to the old cripple in the next village. She still has the money she got for selling us... The old cripple can testify. And that’s right, the money she took from him is the evidence!"
"Exactly! Divorce her!"
Su Jingxuan frowned. "My wife hasn’t even been in our home for a month. How could she possibly know an old cripple in the next village? Besides, you claim she sold you, yet aren't you standing here perfectly fine?"
The three of them fell silent.
"Wife, Father and Mother must have misunderstood you. Please don’t hold it against them!"
"Don’t worry, I won't!" Luo Yunhe felt a sense of satisfaction seeing them rendered speechless.
"Alright, Father and Mother, I’ve been out all day. I just got back and you’re throwing all this at me. If you aren't tired, I certainly am!"
Su Jingxuan placed the game at the kitchen door and began to prepare to process the catch.
Luo Yunhe felt for him. "Husband, you’ve been working hard all day. Go take a rest! Leave these things to me."
Su Jingxuan was indeed exhausted. The day had felt like a brush with death, and his body was weary. Between the physical toil and the noisy confrontation, he was mentally drained.
"Go on, get some rest!"
"Alright."
After sending Su Jingxuan away, Luo Yunhe looked at their stunned faces and sneered.
"Some people commit wicked deeds and face the consequences themselves, yet they refuse to reflect on their own actions. Instead, they shift the blame onto others—it’s absolutely laughable!"
As she spoke, Luo Yunhe grabbed a wild pheasant and began to pluck its feathers with lightning speed. Her movements were savage and efficient; she ripped off handfuls of feathers without hesitation, a sight that seemed almost bloody. She even turned her head occasionally to fix those three with a chilling, piercing gaze.
"Luo Yunhe, you little bitch, don't get cocky!"
"Oh? You want to sell me? Do you think I’m that easy to sell? By the way, the meal you made this morning was delicious!"
"You..." Mother Su was so incensed by this comment that she was practically trembling with rage.
"Mother, Father..." Su Ruyi tugged at their clothes, signaling them to go inside the room to talk. The three of them retreated to the room with grim expressions.
"Father, Mother, this Luo Yunhe is too strange. It’s like she’s a completely different person. We can’t beat her; what are we going to do?"
Su Shan’s face remained cold. He had never liked this eldest daughter-in-law. She had turned their home into a foul-smelling mess. He, too, wished he could sell her off.
"Old man, I think we can do this..." Mother Su began to whisper.
Upon hearing her mother’s plan, Su Ruyi’s eyes lit up. "You’re brilliant, Mother!"
"Don’t worry, this will surely ruin her reputation and get her kicked out! And if Su Jingxuan dares to side with her, we’ll just cripple him and cast him out as well!"
Luo Yunhe had no idea what they were plotting in the shadows, but she was content to finish plucking all the game she had. Just as she finished and was about to wash them, Mother Su suddenly charged out.
"These animals belong to us! You have no right to eat them!" Mother Su was quick and nimble, grabbing the processed game and pulling it away.
By the time Luo Yunhe reacted, Mother Su had already snatched several. Seeing only one or two left, Luo Yunhe stepped forward and grabbed them without hesitation.
"You old hag, have you no shame? If you want to eat, go up the mountain and hunt for yourself!"
"Bah! Anything my son hunts belongs to the Su family. An outsider like you has no right to eat it! Give that back!"
Luo Yunhe looked at her unreasonable behavior, then down at the two pieces of game in her own hands. She suppressed the anger burning in her chest and, ignoring Mother Su, turned and walked away.
