Chapter Sixty-Eight: Only Among Demons Can True Friendship Exist
The chill invaded, and Wuyun summoned a stream of air, channeling the cold into his own body. He sighed, “Whatever I think of comes to me—where’s the challenge in that?”
Everyone was dumbfounded. Could it be that Wuyun was about to cultivate the rare Extreme Ice Immortal Body?
After some time, Wuyun’s form flickered like a lamp, alternately bright and dim. As a thread of cold passed through him, a human-shaped Taiji Yin-Yang emerged. Long Yi furrowed his brows—he was versed in the ways of Yin and Yang, yet he never dared imagine applying them to reshape an immortal body.
Soon, the extreme ice and baleful energy separated light from darkness, gradually fading away. From Wuyun’s body, a layer of icy radiance shone forth—the Extreme Ice Immortal Body!
Long Yi praised him highly. Bear Third shamelessly wanted to learn, only to be scolded for greed: “I’m merging many immortal bodies to break into the Great Immortal realm! If you learn it, your immortal body will be muddled and your cultivation ruined!”
With that, Wuyun taught everyone the Water Avoidance Technique, the Vacuum Technique, and the Cold Dispelling Art. Finally, he revealed his trump card, the secret of three-in-one fusion: “This is the Void Escape Technique. You must have an empty, itemless storage space. Use it to absorb the cold around you and preserve yourself. Not just extreme cold—any dangerous environment, you can use this!”
But the storage bead was apparently with Long Yi, who reluctantly handed it over. Long Yun demonstrated, shrinking the formation diagram to hide it within the Void Escape, and the group continued their journey.
After several hundred kilometers, though the path ascended, the cold grew denser. Immortal energy billowed everywhere, like a vast immortal vein. The group’s faces showed longing—they wished to seize the moment to cultivate, but Wuyun blocked them, urging upward.
When they reached a bottleneck thirty meters across, immortal energy swirled like mist, enchanting and unceasing. Wuyun lingered at the very top, where the fog was thickest, unmoving.
“What’s wrong?” Bear Third was itching to take a breath, but Wuyun kept shaking his head. Was the immortal energy poisonous?
Then, as the dense immortal energy suddenly cleared and vanished, a naked figure appeared before them. Yue Qi was second to see it, pointing and shouting, “No clothes—shameful!”
“What!” Bear Third and Long Yi looked closely—who was naked? All they saw was a mountainous serpent’s face, staring dead-on at those inside the formation.
“There’s a road to heaven, yet you didn’t take it; you barged into hell instead! Big Sister, if I say it was all a misunderstanding, would you believe me?” Before Wuyun could finish, a gigantic ice sphere enveloped them, layer upon layer, embedded with countless restrictive formations.
No wonder he hadn’t dared move—they were right beside the serpent’s maw, doomed whether they acted or not.
Especially Yue Qi’s childish remark, which the serpent heard, triggering her furious, hissing laughter.
“You’ve turned my territory upside down. The great immortals have all rebelled and reported to the Fox Immortal King. I came here to cultivate in seclusion, hoping soon to reach the late Profound Immortal stage. Never did I expect to find you here. I’ll dig out your hearts and savor the memories of your agony. I—”
“Stop, stop! Greenleaf! You and the child have both shown yourselves. I may not fancy serpent immortals, but you’re quite striking. How about becoming my maid and mount? I guarantee you a grand future, from Immortal Emperor to divine spirit!”
Wuyun spoke casually, but the Greenleaf Lord was enraged. In the next moment, outside the formation, countless ice pillars appeared, locking the diagram tight. Around them, intricate patterns began to form, as if something was trying to burrow in from the ice, but the formation held firm.
“What a treasure—I almost hate to ruin it!” Greenleaf pondered briefly, then placed the ice sphere atop the bottleneck, preparing to refine it long-term.
Inside the formation, Wuyun’s face was grim, yet before he could speak, Bear Third shouted angrily, “Senior, you’ve gone too far!”
Wuyun was startled, as Bear Third continued, “Even if I die, it’s not worth it. You and Yue Qi have seen everything, but me—I didn’t see a thing!”
“That’s right!” Battle King chimed in, “He’s just a child—what would he even understand? This black bear is a monster, after all. Only monsters can have pure friendships amongst themselves!”
Wuyun was speechless—the logic was sound, and he had no rebuttal.
Wuyun hurried to clear away the patterns in the outer ice for Bear Third to see. This time, Greenleaf sat upright, fully clothed, in meditative cultivation.
“I owe you!” Wuyun glared at Long Yi, who dared not speak, while Bear Third was overjoyed—Wuyun’s word was truth!
In the long refining process, neither Wuyun nor Greenleaf were impatient; both cultivated, each holding their own ground.
Half a month passed. Then, a ripple swept by, startling Wuyun and the others from cultivation. Thinking Greenleaf was about to act ruthlessly, they looked outside to see a hideous newcomer.
A bull’s head, bull’s face, two glossy black horns, and especially around the neck, a longevity ring.
“Bull Cauldron Immortal King, what brings you here?” Greenleaf rose respectfully, only to be seized by him. He barked, “Change back to your true form so Grandpa Bull can enjoy himself!”
At that moment, Wuyun covered Yue Qi’s eyes, coaxed her to sleep and cultivate in dreams, then pointed to Bear Third and Long Yi, “Quick, as I promised earlier!”
Bear Third peered outside, wishing he were that bull. Greenleaf resisted, half-willing, half-unwilling—was it because of the ice sphere’s occupants?
No, for the bull continued, “You said, if I could ascend to Immortal King, you’d be slave or servant at my whim. Now I’m at the Profound Immortal peak, just a step from breakthrough. You act refined daily, but today, obey me—this tribulation, I’ll cross it myself, ha ha ha!”
Bull Cauldron seized Greenleaf, his bull’s head butted her, horns casting a ring of light. Greenleaf’s resistance faltered.
The gap between Profound Immortal peak, late stage, and mid stage was vast, and their arts differed. Without special means, comparison was futile.
As Greenleaf reverted to her true form, her serpentine body, thousands of meters long, shrank as Bull Cauldron became a bull—a blazing Sunrush Immortal Bull, spewing Sixfold True Fire to roast the serpent, filling the air with the scent of scorched flesh. This was no mere forceful conquest—he meant to play and devour!
Ordinarily, Wuyun wouldn’t meddle in monster friendships, but this situation...
Bear Third, pinched by Battle King, was the first to snap, roaring, “Let go of that immortal serpent!”
Bull Cauldron paused, peering into the ice sphere, feigning anger, “What do you want?”
Bear Third immediately cowered: “Let me go first! Let me!”
“Ha ha ha!” Bull Cauldron laughed, “So the wild desert lords’ drama is real—dragon, bear, bug, little golden man—I didn’t believe it, but it’s true!”
“Mm, watch my divine might! Relax—this is the territory of the Ten-Tailed Fox Immortal King. Her subordinates—I wouldn’t dare kill them! I’ll wait for her oath, to be slave and servant!”
He cared nothing for a few spectators. With a twist, the serpent’s tail pointed up, head down—he meant to torment Greenleaf in the most primal way.
“What now?” Bear Third glanced at Battle King, who was also stunned. The group hid within the formation, fate unknown, yet still spoke up for their enemy.
They say the enemy of your enemy is your friend, but Bull Cauldron was about to become a friend—until Bear Third’s outburst exposed them.
“Unique!”
Wuyun pointed, making Bull Cauldron shudder. He turned, and seeing Wuyun wielding a second-grade immortal sword, his eyes dared not shift.
The former sword of the Emperor Serpent Bitao—who didn’t know it?
But the opponent’s cultivation...
“My master sent me to retrieve the sword and hone myself. Who knew I’d encounter such fortune!” Wuyun spoke, seeing Bull Cauldron’s frown and barked, “Didn’t you hear my subordinate? Release the little serpent and let him go!”
“You—your cultivation... I don’t believe it! How could Elder Bitao have a disciple like you? I’m her grandson! Don’t try to fool me. I’ll just ask my grandfather and learn the truth!”
As Bull Cauldron finished, he sent out a spiritual message. Battle King whispered, asking who his grandfather was. Long Yi answered, “The Emperor Serpent Bitao has three husbands. This must be a direct descendant of Mirror Sky Sunrush Bull.”
Before Bull Cauldron could probe further, Wuyun called out, “Little Bitao...”
Bull Cauldron froze, suddenly sensing something. Terrified, he fled at once.
As he left, a dreadful, furious spiritual force swept from the spatial channel. An arcane language, bypassing the formation, sounded in their ears.
Though incomprehensible, they understood in their hearts: you are doomed!
The Emperor Serpent Bitao, a demon emperor, pronounced them doomed—so doomed they were. Her word was law; heaven and earth obeyed.
Poor, clueless Bull Cauldron, now frightened, his attempt to break through to Immortal King delayed.
Greenleaf lay powerless atop the ice, unmoving, her massive form reduced to over ten meters, making Bear Third’s eyes burn with desire.
“Lord, you promised me!”
Wuyun nodded. The formation struggled, and with the ice sphere losing its magical support, a gap opened, just large enough for Bear Third to squeeze through. Once through, he too grew to over ten meters, clutching Greenleaf, peering about as if seeking the best spot to take a bite.
Long Yi looked on displeased. “Senior, by rights, dragon and serpent make a match. He’s a bear—what business has he? Does he mean to gnaw a Profound Immortal? His teeth will shatter!”
Long Yi cursed, his harem numbering in the thousands. This green serpent was alluring in her own way. After a few curses, Wuyun waved his hand and whispered, “Next, it’s your turn!”
Battle King, Little Bug, and Long Yi were stunned. Could it really be turn after turn? Senior was too forward, too liberal!
As the three worried that Yue Qi might follow the wrong teacher, the situation between Bear Third and Greenleaf changed dramatically!
Greenleaf, previously powerless, suddenly wrapped herself around Bear Third, from legs to neck, layer upon layer. Was she planning a counterattack, to devour Bear Third herself?
Yet she remained weak, but her tail flashed with lights, and a fox appeared, enveloping Greenleaf.
“What a strategy!” Wuyun clapped. Bear Third immediately convulsed as if electrified, his expression dazed and satisfied. After three seconds, Long Yi had already transformed into a dragon, and the concerned Wuyun tossed him out.
