Chapter Four: The Warmth of Home, A Beginner’s Skill!
“Reserve 5 evolution points, convert the rest into attribute points.”
After some thought, Chu Xu decided to keep 5 evolution points for emergencies, such as healing injuries promptly. The remaining 15 evolution points were converted all at once into 15 attribute points. He allocated 3 points each to his four primary attributes, with the last 3 points going toward constitution.
For Chu Xu, still in his juvenile stage, constitution affected every aspect of his body, including immunity, metabolism, endurance, and recovery. The stronger his constitution, the more it would benefit his growth.
Soon, the attribute section on the status panel refreshed:
[Attributes]: Strength 36, Agility 36, Constitution 39, Spirit 38
With the attribute enhancement complete, Chu Xu felt a distinct change in his body. A warm current surged through his limbs and bones, permeating every corner of his body and bringing a profound sense of exhilaration.
When the warmth subsided, Chu Xu found a puddle of accumulated water and gazed at his reflection to observe his current changes.
Compared to the half-grown turkey-like creature he was just a month ago at birth, Chu Xu’s body had swollen significantly, and his appearance had changed drastically.
His head-to-tail length reached one meter, with his head height exceeding half a meter. His hind legs had grown long and sturdy, revealing increasingly robust muscle lines despite being encased in scales.
Dense downy fur flourished, spreading from the top of his head along the spine to a thick, half-length tail. When he parted his lips, sharp fangs gleamed fiercely, paired with a pair of amber vertical pupils honed through constant exercise, exuding the majestic and domineering aura befitting a future king of dinosaurs.
In just one short month, Chu Xu’s body size had more than doubled, a growth rate defying all logic.
From his previous life's studies, the juvenile phase of a Tyrannosaurus rex was long, lasting nearly 14 years. Growth from birth to 14 years old was relatively slow, with body weight rarely exceeding two tons.
Only after 14 years would the T. rex enter a rapid growth subadult phase, experiencing explosive increases in weight, length, bone density, and tooth thickness, maturing fully by 18 to 22 years of age into an adult Tyrannosaurus.
Comparing himself with his sibling dragons who were only a day or two younger, Chu Xu knew they still resembled newborns, appearing tiny in his eyes.
Chu Xu’s rapid, vigorous growth was naturally thanks to his daily unwavering discipline. The steady increase in his primary attributes brought continuous strengthening and expansion to his body.
Satisfied with his appearance and physique, Chu Xu returned to the nest where the dragon eggs lay.
“Roar~~”
Unexpectedly, the mother dragon guarding the nest had already awakened. Not seeing Chu Xu nearby, she anxiously searched around.
Upon spotting him safe and sound, the mother dragon let out a low, deep roar, seemingly scolding him for wandering off.
---
After a month of living together, Chu Xu had grown to understand the meaning behind the mother dragon’s roars. He responded with a call of reassurance to ease her worries.
When Chu Xu returned and lay down in the nest, the mother dragon relaxed, curling her legs and lying on her side beside him.
As night fell, the sudden drop in temperature and howling cold winds made the younger dragons—his sister and brother—shiver. Their cries had just roused the mother dragon.
She used a dense layer of downy fur beneath her belly to keep them warm. Now, the young dragons slept peacefully in her warm, safe embrace.
Though Chu Xu was no longer afraid of the cold, he still heeded the mother dragon’s urging and nestled under her belly to share warmth with the young ones.
Indeed, the warmth was tender and comforting.
Looking at his siblings sprawled out in sleep and the mother dragon standing guard nearby, Chu Xu was filled with a unique sense of familial warmth.
In just one month, having adapted to this new life, he deeply felt the affection within this Tyrannosaurus family: the mother tirelessly hunted and nurtured the young, the adorable siblings played and grew up carefree, and occasionally the father returned home bearing a lavish feast, also patrolling the territory’s perimeter to ward off roaming predators and eliminate any threat to the safety of the mother and young.
Dinosaurs were not the cold-blooded lizards of later imagination; they had a concept of family love. Parents knew how to nurture and protect their offspring, raising them to thrive.
This deepened Chu Xu’s sense of identity and belonging within his Tyrannosaurus family.
While animal emotions might lack the complexity of humans, they possessed a purity unreachable by mankind, expressing deep affection without words through countless gestures.
Fatigue and drowsiness from training washed over Chu Xu. In the mother’s embrace, he closed his eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep.
---
More than half a month later, an autumn rain cleansed the world of summer’s heat, bringing a faint chill. The greenery of the forest quietly donned golden hues.
“Howl~~ howl~~”
Early in the morning, Chu Xu was roused by a cacophony of cries. No guessing needed—it was his sister Long Yue and brother Liu Xing fighting again.
Biting and clawing, tumbling and wrestling in the nest, they made quite the ruckus.
As the eldest brother, Chu Xu stood up, raised his forelimbs, retracted his claws, and with lightning speed swung his dragon palms.
“Smack!!”
Before Long Yue and Liu Xing could react, Chu Xu struck each sharply on the head.
The force was not light; both howled in pain.
“Three days without a beating, and you tear the house down. How many times have I told you not to raise your voices so early and disturb my sleep?”
Chu Xu’s tall, proud head allowed him to look down on his short little siblings with a commanding presence. His inherent tyrannical aura silenced them instantly—they dared not act out.
Unfortunately, his sister and brother had the memory span of fish. Even though they had been disciplined just yesterday morning, they completely forgot by today.
Long Yue had developed some conditioned reflex. After being disciplined by Chu Xu, she obediently fell silent, curling up like a little kitten.
Brother Liu Xing, filled with resentment, dared not confront Chu Xu directly. Instead, he bared his teeth and bit at the air incessantly, creating a rapid rhythmic clatter, as if trying to choke Chu Xu by devouring the nearby air.
This guy—could he be part corgi?
“Bang!!”
Chu Xu showed no mercy. With overwhelming strength, he charged at Liu Xing, knocking him to the ground. He pinned him down and dealt a thorough beating.
Minutes later, the forgetful Liu Xing was beaten black and blue again, submissively exposing his pale belly in surrender, signaling defeat.
Having established his place in the family hierarchy, Chu Xu nodded with satisfaction and released his brother.
After teaching his unruly siblings a lesson, Chu Xu began his daily training.
Upon completing today’s session, a system notification finally sounded:
[Claw (100/100), proficiency maxed, automatically upgraded to Wild Claw.]
[Wild Claw (0/1000): Beginner skill, instantly unleashes 2–5 consecutive claw strikes.]
