Ning Xingxian was startled. "Quick, call an ambulance!" However, as he picked up Zhou Erqin's phone and glanced at the screen, he felt as if he could no longer draw breath, pointing at the device, unable to utter a single word.

Seeing this, the housekeeper panicked and immediately began pressing on Ning Xingxian’s philtrum. "Ambulance! Call an ambulance immediately!"

In the end, both Ning Xingxian and Zhou Erqin were admitted to the hospital. The doctors examined them, but they were simply frightened—no one could fathom what kind of news could possibly terrify the pair to such an extent.

After waking up in the hospital, Zhou Erqin immediately scrambled out of bed. "Ning Chu! Where is Ning Chu? Tell her to get over here right now!"

After they had been admitted, the housekeeper had already called Ning Chu. However, Ning Chu’s response was indifferent. "I see. Just take good care of them, Housekeeper. They won't die that easily."

After all, even if she, the cannon fodder, had died in the past, those two were still alive and well.

By now, Ning Chu was already on the other side of the ocean, enjoying the sea breeze and the scenery. Occasionally, men with attractive physiques would approach her to strike up a conversation, but Ning Chu turned them all down. For now, she just wanted to enjoy her freedom alone.

Meanwhile, Zhou Erqin and Ning Xingxian kept calling Ning Chu desperately, but her phone remained switched off; they couldn't get through to her at all. When they arrived at the Chaoyang Villa, they found that because Ning Chu had already divorced Tantai Chao, they couldn't get any information out of Steward Gu either.

"Where exactly is my daughter, Ning Chu, living now?" Zhou Erqin and Ning Xingxian resembled two enraged roosters.

Steward Gu maintained his composure. "Mr. and Mrs. Ning, we truly do not know." In truth, Steward Gu knew, but since the mistress was no longer the mistress—and given their behavior—he had no desire to tell them.

The mistress was a wonderful person, but her parents... Steward Gu shook his head. He had long felt that Mr. and Mrs. Ning were not kind to her.

"What about our son-in-law? Is he at the company right now? Or somewhere else?" Seeing that the steward claimed ignorance, Zhou Erqin decided to find Tantai Chao.

Steward Gu replied, "The Master is at the company." And, he added to himself, he is no longer your son-in-law, either.

Zhou Erqin insisted, "Then we will wait here for him to return."

Since they were the former parents-in-law, Steward Gu did not have them thrown out, but he did place a call to Tantai Chao. "Master... the parents of Miss Ning Chu are here. They cannot find Miss Ning Chu."

Tantai Chao pondered for a moment. "I understand. I am coming back."

He had assumed that after their divorce, although Ning Chu had moved out of the villa, she would have at least informed her parents. However, recalling the changes in her personality, he wasn't entirely surprised.

Tantai Chao returned to the villa quickly. As soon as they saw him, Zhou Erqin and Ning Xingxian immediately exclaimed, "Son-in-law! We had no idea you and Ning Chu had divorced. We do not approve of this divorce, so you are still our son-in-law."

Tantai Chao replied coldly, "We are already divorced."

Zhou Erqin stood up. "We did not give our consent!"

Tantai Chao retorted, "The Civil Affairs Bureau has stamped the papers." He hadn't married them; why would he need their consent?

Ning Xingxian chimed in, "Son-in-law, was there something Chu Chu did that you weren't satisfied with? If you were unhappy, you could have let us discipline her. This... this divorce is a major matter. How could you two just go through with it without a word to us?" Seeing the divorce certificate earlier had nearly caused him to collapse.

Zhou Erqin added, "Exactly! And where is Ning Chu? Even if you are divorced, she shouldn't have moved out so quickly, should she?"

Tantai Chao had no desire to waste his breath on them. He had been able to tolerate them when he was married to Ning Chu, but now, looking at them, he had no interest in speaking. Their faces were so full of calculation that it was painful to watch.

"We are divorced. I have no idea where she is. Housekeeper, have them leave."

"Yes, Master. Mrs. Ning, Mr. Ning, please leave." Steward Gu escorted them toward the door, but the pair not only refused to leave but tried to continue pleading with Tantai Chao.

"Hey, hey, hey! Son-in-law! Son-in-law! I do not agree to this divorce!"

"Son-in-law! How can you treat your parents-in-law this way!"

Seeing they wouldn't budge, Steward Gu called for security. Once they were gone, Tantai Chao asked the steward, "Where is Ning Chu?"

Steward Gu replied, "Miss Ning Chu is currently staying at the Lakeside Residence. However, reports suggest she left the country the day after her divorce from you."

No wonder Zhou Erqin and Ning Xingxian couldn't find her, Tantai Chao thought. She had grown much bolder and had even learned how to act first and report later.

Her temperament had indeed changed significantly—not just toward him, but toward her own parents as well. Tantai Chao knew exactly how obedient she used to be toward them.

He didn't know why she had suddenly changed, but it was no longer any of his business.

Back at the villa, unable to find Ning Chu, Zhou Erqin and Ning Xingxian could only hire people to investigate. As for the news of the divorce, they were determined to keep it under wraps.

That ungrateful girl, Ning Chu, kept her phone off, and after quietly asking around among those who knew her, they still couldn't locate her.

Two days of investigation revealed that Ning Chu had flown out of the country two days ago, and there was no word on when she would return.

"When she comes back, we must lock her up!"

"A few hours on her knees will make her obedient."

"To think she dared to divorce! And without letting us know!" Ning Xingxian was gasping for air, his chest heaving. He glared at Zhou Erqin. "Didn't you go to see her before? Why didn't you realize she was planning to divorce?"

Zhou Erqin replied, "She only said..." Her eyes widened suddenly as she finally understood what Ning Chu had meant by "a grand gift." She had been played by her!

"I was wondering if you said something to her, or if it was because you gave money to that little hussy. Did Ning Chu think you were casting her aside, which is why she divorced?" Zhou Erqin turned her fire on Ning Xingxian.

Ning Xingxian countered, "It was you who went to talk to her about An Sheng every single day, making her uncomfortable, which is why she likely divorced. If you hadn't told her everything, she wouldn't have known a thing."

Zhou Erqin snapped, "That hussy's situation was your doing!" She suddenly recalled the events of the past few months. "Yes! It was all your fault! After that pair of sluts appeared, Ning Chu fell into a coma, and when she woke up, her personality seemed to have changed. It was because of them! It’s all your fault!" She pointed an accusing finger at Ning Xingxian.

Ning Xingxian felt a wave of guilt, as Zhou Erqin seemed to be right—it was only after that mother and daughter appeared that Ning Chu had sought the divorce.

"Then tell me, what should we do now?"

Zhou Erqin declared, "The priority is to get Ning Chu back! Since she could marry Tantai Chao once, she can marry him a second time! If that fails..."

Ning Xingxian suggested, "Then let An Sheng go!"

"Pah!" Zhou Erqin was even more enraged. "Is that little slut worthy of coveting our son-in-law?"
