Chapter 81: Divine Retribution Approaches [4]

At eight o’clock in the evening, the high-speed train finally arrived at Lucheng Station.
“Miss Su, you forgot your bag,” Yan Yu reminded her as he stood up.
Su Han turned back with a smile. “Once we get off this train, you’re my boyfriend. Since when does a girlfriend have to carry her own bag?”
“…” Yan Yu was speechless. “If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come. So much effort for nothing—doing the boyfriend’s job but not getting a boyfriend’s perks.”
“Oh? You want perks?”
“Do I?”
“How about a slap then.” Su Han chuckled, not looking back as she got off the train.
Yan Yu shrugged, resigned to carrying Su Han’s bag as he followed her off.
“From now on, you’d better stop calling me Miss Su.”
“So what should I call you? Little Su? But when we get to your house, everyone’s surname is Su—‘Little Su’ will be confusing. Maybe Han? Hanhan?” Yan Yu teased.
Su Han shot him a glare. “Just call me Su Han. My name’s only two characters anyway, so it won’t sound distant.”
As soon as they stepped out of the ticket gate, Su Han’s smile faded, her expression turning aloof. Yan Yu glanced ahead and saw the Su family’s butler, Mo Kunhua, waiting for them.
Butler Mo was as impeccably dressed as ever, his gray hair dyed deliberately black, looking full of energy for his age.
Standing beside the butler was a young man, probably not much older than Yan Yu himself, his features bearing a resemblance to Su Han’s—clearly another member of the Su family.
“Butler Mo,” Su Han greeted him.
The butler smiled. “Miss, you’ve finally decided to come home.”
“Sis, who’s this guy?” the young man beside the butler asked bluntly.
Su Han smiled slightly and confidently took Yan Yu’s arm. “Your sister’s boyfriend. What, you have a problem?”
“What… Sis, are you serious? You’ve been in Rongcheng for a year and this is what you brought home…”
His words were cut short by a fierce glare from Su Han. Yan Yu was secretly impressed—so she was a tigress even at home.
Su Han introduced them. “My boyfriend, Yan Yu.”
“Hello.” Yan Yu politely extended his hand.

But the young man curled his lip, clearly unwilling to shake hands.
Another glare from Su Han, and the young man reluctantly extended his hand for a perfunctory shake. Su Han continued, “This is my cousin, my second uncle’s son, Su Wentao. He’s usually spoiled—no different from the little brats in my class.”
Yan Yu suddenly understood—so Su Wentao was just another second-generation rich kid. If only they’d said so earlier.
Sensing the tension, Butler Mo quickly tried to smooth things over. “The young lady’s return is a happy occasion. Let’s hurry to the car and head home to see the master.”
The group made their way to the parking lot. Butler Mo was about to drive when Su Wentao stopped him. “Butler Mo, you’re getting on in years, and your eyesight’s not what it was. Why not let Yan Yu drive?”
“That… wouldn’t be proper. Guests shouldn’t have to drive,” the butler protested.
“But we can’t risk our lives, can we?” Su Wentao shot Yan Yu a look.
Yan Yu grinned. This guy was clearly making things difficult, trying to show him up by making him drive.
Was Yan Yu someone to be trifled with?
“I don’t have a license,” he shrugged.
No license—what, were they going to force him behind the wheel?
Su Wentao’s face stiffened. “How come you don’t have a license?”
“I usually have a family driver,” Yan Yu replied.
At this, Butler Mo’s eyelids twitched furiously. “Keep pretending, boy. A driver, really?” But in truth, Yan Yu did have a driver—the same Master Cao who was now heading to Fengmen Village.
Watching the silent contest between Yan Yu and Su Wentao, Su Han was secretly delighted. Yan Yu clearly had the upper hand, which made her feel bringing him home was a wise choice.
Having already spoken up, Su Wentao couldn’t very well make Butler Mo drive and so grumpily took the driver’s seat himself, with Yan Yu and Su Han in the back.
No sooner had the car started than Yan Yu’s brow furrowed. An uneasy feeling flooded his heart.
Suddenly—caw, caw, caw—
A few crows flew out of the dark underground garage.
“Where did these crows come from? What bad luck!” Su Wentao couldn’t help but complain.

“What’s wrong?” Su Han noticed Yan Yu’s pale face.
Clutching his chest, Yan Yu said, “I think… it’s that time.”
“What time?” Su Han was confused. The way Yan Yu looked now, he seemed like a girl with terrible cramps.
“When I dealt with Yang Yongsheng before, I broke a taboo. My master said I’d be punished by heaven. I’ve been home for days, so nothing happened. But now that I’ve left the house, I’m afraid trouble’s coming…”
Only now did Yan Yu realize his master hadn’t lied to him.
Su Han asked in surprise, “Will it be serious?”
“Probably… not too bad. Just a streak of bad luck.”
“Bad luck?”
She had barely finished speaking when Su Wentao slammed on the brakes. The three of them jerked forward in their seats. Butler Mo asked, “Young Master Su, what happened?”
“Someone’s faking an accident!” Su Wentao fumed, rolling down the window and shouting at the old lady lying in the road, “Old woman, if you’re going to fake an accident, at least check whose car you’re picking! I’m from the Su family. If you know what’s good for you, get lost!”
The old woman was clearly a professional at this. Seeing Su Wentao’s angry demeanor, she immediately wailed, “Oh no! A rich boy hit me! A rich boy knocked down an old lady and is now accusing me of faking it! Heaven help me!”
Su Han was dumbfounded. “Could this be the heavenly punishment?”
Yan Yu flushed with embarrassment. “Well, since I’m in the car, any misfortune will affect everyone—maybe even drag you all down with me.”
Outside, the old woman wailed louder and louder. The onlookers, not knowing the truth, really believed a rich boy was bullying an old lady. Su Wentao tried to explain, but it was futile. With the crowd growing larger, he had no choice but to open his wallet and throw out two thousand yuan, finally driving the old woman off.
Back in the car, Su Wentao muttered, “What kind of jinx did we pick up? In a hundred years, I’ve never run into a scam like this!”
Yan Yu’s face burned with shame—it really was his fault, and he couldn’t blame Su Wentao for being angry.
Su Han whispered, “So we paid to ward off disaster. Does that mean the bad luck is over?”
Yan Yu gave a bitter smile. “This is only the beginning…”
Less than five minutes after he said this, Su Wentao braked hard again.
“Oh no! Another rich boy hit someone! Heaven help me!”
