Chapter 29: Has Brother Quan Ever Been Poisoned by His Own Words?
Ye Xiweak made no attempt to lower her voice, and for a moment, all eyes turned toward her.
Li Wanbai asked curiously, "What's wrong? Is there another issue?"
"I suddenly realized the balcony on the second floor has a better view," Ye Xiweak said with a smile. "Xiaobai, could you let me have the second-floor room? You take the first?"
Ma Xu wore a knowing smile and exchanged a glance with Teacher Wang, who beamed and said, "You all work out the rooms first. Xiao Ma and I will go down and unpack our things. Let's meet in the first-floor dining room in a bit."
With that, the two of them vanished from the scene at lightning speed, eager to avoid getting caught up in any conflict.
Li Wanbai observed the decor on the second floor. The production team had been scrupulously fair: it was true the second floor had a large balcony, but the first floor boasted a spacious living room and a garden. In terms of space, the first floor was actually more generous.
But Ye Xiweak was fixated on the balcony, her gaze locked on Li Wanbai, lips curved in a friendly plea, as if coaxing a close friend. "Please, Xiaobai, you know how much I love balconies—just let me have the second floor!"
Her eyes flashed with a determined light.
She was begging Li Wanbai so openly on camera; unless Li Wanbai wanted to make enemies in the industry, she would have to give in!
In front of the cameras, even three parts affection must be played as ten.
Besides, their relationship really was quite good.
After all, it was Ye Xiweak who had introduced Mu Sang to Li Wanbai; no matter what, Li Wanbai owed her that much.
What Ye Xiweak didn’t know was that the person before her was no longer the Li Wanbai she once knew.
Now, standing here was Li Wanbai from ten years ago—the fearless, indomitable troublemaker who feared nothing but her homeroom teacher, who had climbed walls, crossed rivers, swiped test papers, and found people to pose as her parents.
"No," she replied, shaking her head without hesitation. "You love the big balcony—well, so do I! Aren’t we good friends? How could you not know that?"
Whether she liked balconies or not depended on the situation.
Generally speaking, she didn’t care for them; too windy, just a mess for her hair. The big balcony at home had already been turned into a glass room, so naturally, the one here didn’t excite her either.
But that didn’t matter—if Ye Xiweak wanted it, she could pretend to want it too.
Ye Xiweak stood there, stunned. She hadn’t expected Li Wanbai to refuse and was momentarily at a loss.
This wasn’t how the script was supposed to go.
[lwb is so rude—didn’t you hear our dear Ye say she likes the balcony? All the rooms are nearly identical; why not give her what she wants?]
[That’s hilarious—I'm not even a Li Wanbai fan, but let’s use some logic. Just because Ye Xiweak likes the balcony, does Li Wanbai have to give up her room?]
[And it’s not even a private balcony; everyone can go up to the second floor and enjoy it! What’s the difference between staying on the first or second floor?]
[That logic goes for both lwb and yxr—who knows what those two are fighting over.]
[I couldn't care less about two women squabbling. Can you move aside? You're blocking Baichuan and Haohao!]
[Who knew there were still people who support both Yu Baichuan and Quan Hao? What’s going on in their heads? Aren’t they worried about drama?]
[You don’t understand the Nemesis Group! Especially when they compete for awards—no matter who loses, it hurts no one.]
[If you’re talking nemesis groups, why do I feel like Li Wanbai and Ye Xiweak could be one too?]
[Isn’t that wrong? Don’t they both say the other is their best friend? How can best friends be nemeses?]
[Haha, don’t compare them to Baichuan and Haohao—those two are in a league of their own. Anyone with eyes can see the difference.]
[Aren’t you getting off topic? The real issue is, aren’t Li Wanbai and Ye Xiweak about to fight?]
[Fight! Fight!]
[Fight! Fight!]
[...]
A fight was out of the question—Ye Xiweak cared about her future in the entertainment world, and Li Wanbai, who didn’t care about such things, couldn’t actually fight anyway. Even if she tried, Yu Baichuan probably wouldn’t step in to shield her as he once might have. So she simply put on a polite smile. "Sorry about that."
"Don’t apologize so fast—I’d like to try once more," Ye Xiweak said, her smile a little stiff, pausing to consider.
Before she could speak, Quan Hao rolled his eyes. "Do you have to keep this act up? Weren’t you the one who first wanted the purple room? Teacher Wang and Ma Xu didn’t compete with you—they left the purple room for you. Now you don’t want it? Playing games with them?"
Ye Xiweak blanched and shook her head. "No, I just… I just thought—"
"You thought you liked the balcony more than the color, right? Are you out of your mind? You could stay in the purple room and use the balcony anytime you want. We’re here for three days—what’s the rush?"
Quan Hao crossed his arms, his tone sharp. "Frankly, I don’t think you care about the balcony at all. If you really did, since Li Wanbai’s so firm, why not ask me or Baichuan to swap? You’re fixated on Li Wanbai as if her room is the only one on the second floor."
Ye Xiweak’s expression darkened. She’d never won a verbal sparring match with Quan Hao, and everyone knew his barbs could be lethal. He was respected in the industry; crossing him would do her no favors. So she played along, "Teacher Quan makes sense. I was being shortsighted. So—would you be willing to switch rooms with me?"
"No," Quan Hao shot back, not missing a beat. He stepped back, opened the door to the black room he’d picked, and sneered, "Settle your own issues—I can’t be bothered."
[Quan’s mouth is unstoppable—he really is something else!]
[Honestly, as much as Quan’s temper can be explosive, his logic is solid. I still don’t get why Ye Xiweak insists on swapping with Li Wanbai. There are three rooms on the second floor—why just her?]
[Isn’t it obvious? It’s not about the balcony—it’s about wanting to live near the two male stars.]
[Stop spreading rumors!]
Ye Xiweak turned hopefully to Yu Baichuan, but he was unmoved. He simply returned to his room, patting Li Wanbai on the shoulder as he passed—a gesture that spoke volumes.
The once bustling second-floor corridor was suddenly quiet, leaving only Li Wanbai and Ye Xiweak behind.
