Is it the Hall of Slaughter!?
“Hanami, where are you?”
“Good girl, come out now~——”
The gentle, watery voice echoed in the vast main hall, accompanied by the rhythmic sound of footsteps—tap, tap, tap.
Each step sent jolts through her frail, pitiful, and helpless heart, as if the blood in her veins had frozen, her heart stopped beating, and suffocation swept over her.
Hanami curled up inside a tiny cabinet, praying desperately that she would not be discovered.
For Hanami, who had just witnessed her own mother turn into a monster and tear her vicious father apart with her bare hands, the shock was enough to make a horror film.
On the brink of death, Hanami couldn’t help but complain about her own absurdly unlucky reboot of life.
Other people’s reincarnation: Using the knowledge of their past life, they leap to genius status, build a happy and wealthy family, ascend to the peak of life, harvest sweet love, and achieve the ultimate success.
Her reincarnation: Becoming a diminutive princess of the Sengoku era, about to be sent off for a political marriage!
If it was only that, she could accept it. But fate was never so simple.
Because her mother in this life—was not human!
Literally!
Not human!
Thinking about it brought tears. On this ordinary night, her body, which had stopped growing at age ten, had now reached eighteen—well beyond the average marrying age for Sengoku women. She had thought she could spend her days idly, but tragedy struck.
Of all things, disaster descended.
She caught the eye of a neighboring king who clearly had a penchant for young girls, and her brutal father, the city lord, was only too happy to trade her off for a city.
Hanami had planned to escape, intending to take along her kind, ancient mother—who looked identical to her modern mother.
Just as she arrived at her mother’s palace, her wretched father showed up too. To avoid being caught, Hanami hid.
From there, events took a turn for the bizarre.
She watched as her father entered, face twisted in anger, drawing his sword with malicious intent, ready to cut down her weak and beautiful mother.
Shouting, “Whose child is she?!”
Clearly, “she” referred to Hanami, as her mother had only one daughter.
Even in such danger, Hanami’s mind wandered, musing: Her mother openly cuckolded the city lord—impressive!
As her father was about to kill her mother, Hanami, acting on impulse, nearly rushed out to save her.
But before she could move, her father’s head was already on the floor.
A heavy thud, perfectly masking any noise she made.
Her seemingly frail mother suddenly sprouted furry ears atop her head, a pure white tail appeared, and she effortlessly tore the raging city lord apart.
Yes, tore apart—literally.
Head separated from body.
Blood splattered across the floor.
The swift, decisive action left Hanami, hiding in the wardrobe, utterly dumbfounded.
What on earth had she stumbled into?
Too stunned, she let out a cry, instantly attracting her “mother’s” attention.
That, in short, was why the opening scene unfolded as it did.
Hanami: …Forget reaching the pinnacle of life—surviving to see tomorrow’s sunrise would be a miracle.
“Am I about to die again?” Hanami wanted to pound on the wooden boards inside the cabinet, but given her uncertain fate, she refrained.
She steeled herself, closed her eyes, thinking perhaps it’d be easier to just die.
Surely, being torn apart so swiftly wouldn’t hurt?
Silence filled the space.
Hanami waited quietly for death to arrive.
She didn’t know how much time passed; the cabinet door remained unopened, and footsteps outside faded away.
Eh?
Had the monster really left?
Hesitating, Hanami thought: surely a monster could easily kill her, no need to toy with her?
Peering through the wardrobe’s crack, Hanami swallowed nervously and tentatively extended her hand.
The wooden wardrobe creaked open.
Her gaze was drawn to the moonlight spilling through the open shoji door, casting a silvery glow in the corridor, delicate as gauze. The pond in the courtyard rippled, shimmering under the moon’s reflection.
A massive, round moon hung before her eyes.
Bright, clear—and frighteningly large.
No monster? Had it really gone?
Hanami let out a breath of relief, pushed open the wardrobe, and hurried to escape!
“Hanami~ Did you have fun?” The gentle voice sounded above her.
Hanami, crawling out from beneath the wardrobe, froze, cold sweat soaking her back.
Motionless, she slowly and stiffly lifted her head.
By candlelight, cat-like vertical pupils gazed down at her, unblinking.
Blood-red lips curled into a seductive smile; a tongue swept across them, every movement enchanting. Her eyes narrowed, as if entranced, as she scrutinized Hanami’s face, speaking softly, “Caught the naughty child~”
Terrified, Hanami’s facial muscles twitched uncontrollably, her pupils shrank, adrenaline surged.
She wanted to scream, but the shock rendered her mute.
Now she wished she could just faint.
Moonlight poured down, illuminating her mother’s beautiful face, smiling tenderly with the same voice as before—yet Hanami’s skin prickled with goosebumps.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the round object nearby, scattered hair—the unmistakable head of her vicious father.
Wonderful. Not a dream. A true hellish beginning.
“Mo-mo—” She might as well faint.
Given the circumstances, fainting seemed the best choice.
“If you faint, I’ll eat you~” The gentle yet thoroughly threatening voice rang out in the silent bedchamber.
Hanami quickly sat up, stiff and obedient, unable to pull off an on-the-spot faint.
Forcing a stiff smile at her mother’s now even more alluring face, she stammered, “Um, mother, tonight’s moon is so—so beautiful.”
“Yes, tonight’s moon is beautiful.” Her mother smiled, stood up, and used her tail to lift Hanami out from the wardrobe.
Thrown onto a mat, she rolled twice, still feeling the soft, furry sensation.
Excellent texture.
Sitting upright, Hanami desperately avoided looking at her father’s severed head.
For the first time in her life, Hanami hated her own strong nerves—why couldn’t she just faint?!
Her mother’s golden eyes, narrowed to slits under the moonlight, resembled those of a cat. Her snowy tail trailed across the floor, her long black hair now frosted white, and faint violet markings appeared on her already enchanting face.
Hanami’s gaze fixed on the gently swaying furry ears atop her mother’s head.
She had thought being transported to the Sengoku era was tragic enough.
But there was something even more tragic—
“So this world…has monsters?” Her nearly shattered scientific worldview was barely holding up!
Hanami’s only thought: maybe dying now wouldn’t be so bad?
“When you kill me, could you do it quickly?” Hanami took a deep breath, trying to negotiate for a painless death.
Yunhime raised an eyebrow at her.
The air thickened with the scent of flowers.
Yunhime suddenly leaned in, her oppressive gaze locked onto Hanami.
Breathing audible.
Her heartbeat thundered, warm breath on her face, uncontrollable shivers crawling up her spine.
“Idiot, how long are you going to stay amnesiac?” Yunhime rapped her knuckles on Hanami’s head.
Hanami was about to speak when dizziness overtook her, and she finally managed to faint.
…
When she awoke again, she was hugging a furry tail identical to her mother’s, lost in eerie contemplation.
So—she was also a monster.
The revelation overwhelmed her. Hanami considered fainting again, but her mother’s oppressive gaze kept her conscious. Trembling, small and pitiful, she clung tightly to her newly awakened tail.
Yes, a tail.
Fluffy and soft, with a milky scent—pure white and lovely.
She managed a smile uglier than crying: “…So, I am one too?”
Hanami glanced at the severed head nearby. Whether it was her monster bloodline or something else, she no longer felt fear toward the corpse.
A monster’s brain truly was different from a human’s.
“That city lord…”
“Dead.” The indifferent tone made it clear—killing a human was of no consequence to a monster, especially one who was hardly a good city lord.
“…He wasn’t my real father?” Her voice grew uncertain, fading beneath her mother’s terrifying gaze.
Good, she was sure now—definitely not her real father.
Judging by her mother’s sour expression, Hanami wondered: could her real father be some scumbag—no, some monster scum?
The kind who abandons wife and child?
The more she thought, the stranger it seemed.
“Your real father is a snake,” Yunhime said.
Before Hanami could ask more, slender, sharp fingers gripped her chin, beast eyes locked onto her pale blue vertical pupils, musing, “Seems you inherited quite a bit from your father.”
Huh?
A snake?
Her mother was a fox, her father a snake.
Hanami drifted off, her fear of her mother diminishing, and she couldn’t help but ask, “So am I…a snake-fox?”
A fox-snake?
Wait, snakes have two—
Oh, she’s a girl, she has none. That was a relief.
She patted the furry ears atop her head—being a fluffy fox seemed much better.
Thank goodness she wasn’t half snake, half fox. That would be ugly. Hugging her adorable tail, Hanami felt blessed.
Living is all about fluff!
“So why did you choose a snake—” Hanami asked, curious about the cross-species pairing.
Yunhime gave her a sidelong glance, leaned back calmly, crimson lips curling as she replied, “Skilled.”
Hanami: …
She’d just heard something utterly inappropriate for her age.
What a bombshell!
After explaining, Yunhime turned toward the courtyard’s moon.
Before Hanami could ask more, she rose slowly, walked to the veranda, and gazed up at the pitch-black sky, murmuring eerily, “You’re here——”
“Oh my, long time no see, Yunhime.” A colder voice sounded above, and Hanami watched as a giant dog appeared in the sky.
The overwhelming demonic aura made her instinctively hide behind her mother.
Striding across the moon, the giant dog with a crescent mark on its brow grew larger.
As it neared the city, white mist enveloped it.
Its descent quickened.
Hanami peeked curiously from behind Yunhime.
Two figures appeared and vanished in the mist.
Before she could feel fear, her vision was suddenly filled with dazzling white.
Long silver hair, as ethereal as frost and snow, golden beast eyes shining like a full moon, a violet crescent between arched brows, white hunting robes with cold plum motifs, black lantern pants and tall boots.
Their eyes met.
Cold, impassive golden-red eyes fell on her, devoid of emotion. The exquisitely beautiful face still carried a touch of baby fat.
Seeing his appearance, Hanami was speechless with shock.
She didn’t know if he recognized her, but she certainly knew him.
Sesshomaru!!!
After learning she was a pure-blooded monster, another shock hit her—damn it, this was the world of the anime Inuyasha?!
Takahashi-sensei, please save me!!!
