Heart-Protection Pavilion.
"Brother, I truly only gave my sister-in-law a standard tonic. She is my sister-in-law; how could I possibly harm her?"
Faced with Yu Tingye's interrogation, Tang Xin'er felt profoundly aggrieved. Never before had her brother treated her with such severity.
Yu Tingye clenched his fists, nearly resorting to force. "Xin'er, if you do not tell the truth, do not blame your brother for being heartless."
"Does Brother not trust me at all?" Tang Xin'er asked, tears streaming down her face. "I am not lying to you, Brother."
In the shadows by the door, Shuangyu stood motionless. It was not until Tang Xin'er was forced to her knees by Yu Tingye that he could bear it no longer. He stepped out and said to Yu Tingye, "Stop forcing her. It was I who planted the poison, and Miss Xin'er knows nothing of it."
Tang Xin'er stood up, staring at Shuangyu in disbelief. "Are you insane?"
"I am not insane; I simply want her to die!" Shuangyu’s face was etched with hatred.
Yu Tingye reached out a hand toward Shuangyu. "Give me the antidote."
Shuangyu replied with four words: "There is no cure."
"Brother, let me speak with Shuangyu," Tang Xin'er said, clutching Shuangyu’s hand. "Please, give up the antidote and save my sister-in-law first, will you?"

Shuangyu’s eyes turned red. "She killed my elder sister. I saw with my own eyes how she took my sister’s inner core. My sister trusted her so deeply, yet she deserved to die!"
"How could this be..." Tang Xin'er turned to look at Yu Tingye. "Brother, is this true?"
Yu Tingye pulled Tang Xin'er aside and told her, every word clear and distinct, "I am the one who killed her sister, and it was I who gave the inner core to Wanwan. She, too, knew nothing of it. If you seek revenge, shouldn't you find the right person?!"
Tang Xin'er was stunned. "Brother, do you realize what you are saying?"
"Impossible, impossible..." Shuangyu shook his head incessantly, backing away. "Why? Why did you kill my sister? What did she ever do wrong?"
"She showed me disrespect, and for that, she deserved to die!"
"Yu Tingye," Shuangyu spat his name with venom. "You cold-blooded, heartless wretch! I shall kill you!"
Shuangyu drew his sword, intent on striking Yu Tingye. Knowing he was no match for her brother, Tang Xin'er grabbed the blade and drove it into her own chest.
"Xin'er!"
"Miss Xin'er!"
They both cried out in alarm. Yu Tingye caught Tang Xin'er, immediately moving to heal her wounds.
Tang Xin'er, however, turned her gaze toward Shuangyu. "Shuangyu, I beg you, save my sister-in-law."
"If you want to save her, go find the Witch Master, Wu You."

Shuangyu walked a few paces, then turned back to glance at Tang Xin'er. "I hope we never meet again."

After the poison within Lin Xihe’s body was drawn out by Wu You using a unique medicinal liquor, she remained in a deep slumber for three days before finally waking.
The first person she saw upon waking was not Yu Tingye, but Tang Xin'er.
"Sister-in-law, you're awake! You're finally awake!" Tang Xin'er sobbed as she collapsed onto her, her weeping growing increasingly sorrowful.
Lin Xihe was speechless.
"Wanwan, you are awake," Yu Tingye said, entering from the doorway.
Upon hearing Yu Tingye’s voice, Tang Xin'er wiped away her tears and walked past him without a word, refusing to even glance in his direction.
"Ye, what is wrong with Xin'er?" Lin Xihe asked, her voice sounding incredibly frail.
Yu Tingye hurried over and pulled her into his embrace.
