Chapter 16: It’s All Written in the Genes!
The car pulled up in front of the Jinweixian Restaurant. Looking at the extravagant and high-end decor, Jiang Chiyu hesitated, her throat bobbing as she asked tentatively, "Are you sure you want to eat here?"
"Of course. I heard this is a new spot, and the food is supposed to be quite good. I did my research, you know." Jiang Yan assured her with full confidence, a glimmer of certainty in his eyes.
Hearing this, Jiang Chiyu couldn't help but swallow hard. Her mouth was itching for something delicious. However, the storefront looked incredibly expensive, and the dishes inside would surely be priced accordingly. At the thought of this, she clutched her little purse tightly.
Seeing her hesitant expression, Jiang Yan immediately read her mind and couldn't help but chuckle. "No way, what kind of miserable life are you living now? Where did the big-spending Jiang Chiyu go? Since when have you ever denied yourself anything?"
However, such reverse psychology was useless on this version of Jiang Chiyu. She raised an eyebrow and replied with perfect composure, "Just consider that I've had a change of heart. Let's go somewhere else; I can't afford to eat at a place like this."
With that, she turned to leave.
Seeing this, Jiang Yan immediately grabbed her, offering smooth, conciliatory words to keep her there. "Hey, hey, don't go! Since we're already here, just put it on my card, alright?"
A free lunch served on a platter—only a fool would refuse. Hearing this, Jiang Chiyu pulled a sharp U-turn. With a haughty little expression on her face, she triumphantly strode into the restaurant.
Faced with her 180-degree personality flip, Jiang Yan felt a wave of amusement. He twitched his lips and turned to ask Wen Jiu, "Is she always this stingy?"
Wen Jiu shook his head helplessly, and the two followed her in, caught between laughter and tears.
Once seated, Jiang Chiyu took the menu from the waiter. Glancing at the mouth-watering photos of the various dishes, she felt a craving take hold and ordered briskly. "I’ll have the oil-braised shrimp, sweet and sour pork ribs, cola chicken wings, a soufflé, a peach cream pastry, white sugar oil cakes, spicy and sour tripe, and a Four Happiness meatball. That’s it for now. What do you want to eat?"
Just listening to her list the dishes made Jiang Yan feel stuffed. Seeing her look at him, he was stunned. "Wait, little sister, are you eating all of this by yourself?"
"Yes, is there a problem?" Jiang Chiyu opened her eyes wide, staring back at him with an innocent expression.
The waiter standing nearby couldn't help but offer a reminder. "Excuse me, miss, if you order too much, you might not be able to finish it. Our portions are quite generous. Would you like to have some of it served first, and if you're still hungry, we can bring the rest?"
The staff member was thoughtfully considering the waste, but Jiang Chiyu was no ordinary customer.
All eyes at the table were fixed on her. Her lips parted, and just as a polite refusal seemed ready to spill out, she said instead, "It's fine. If I can't finish it, I'll pack it to go."
"You really don't miss a trick, do you? Eating in and taking out—you’ve got it all calculated," Jiang Yan couldn't help but tease.
Jiang Chiyu replied with full confidence, "I can't live hand-to-mouth. I have to think about the long term; after all, I don't come to places like this every day." Having said that, she didn't forget to return a sweet, harmless smile to Jiang Yan as a gesture of gratitude.
Handing the menu to the waiter, Jiang Yan said readily, "Just bring her everything she ordered." He comforted himself internally: *Don't get angry, don't get angry. Getting angry is bad for your health. No need to sweat it, she's family, it's all in the family.*
When the dishes were all served, the table fell silent. Wen Jiu watched the two of them quietly as they ate with immense focus. Occasionally, Jiang Yan would speak up: "Little Yu, try this, it tastes great!"
The scene at the table was remarkably harmonious. Watching their identical eating styles, Wen Jiu finally understood why Jiang Chiyu was so obsessed with food. It was written in their DNA!
After the meal, the two of them rubbed their bulging little bellies, wiped their mouths with satisfaction, and Jiang Chiyu called the waiter over. "Bring all the dishes we just had again, and pack them all up for me!"
The waiter looked at the clean, empty plates covering the table and fell into a deep contemplation. It took a long moment for the waiter to snap out of it and suppress their inner shock. "O-okay."
Seeing the waiter leave, Jiang Yan teased Jiang Chiyu, "Look at you, you scared them."
Jiang Chiyu didn't back down. "This was a joint victory for both of us. Say one more word, and you won't get any of it later."
As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Yan immediately apologized and begged for mercy. "Little Yu, I know you're beautiful and kind-hearted; how could you bear to do that?"
As he spoke, Jiang Yan trotted over to her, bent down behind her, and wrapped his arms around her, clinging to her like a piece of taffy and rubbing his head against her shoulder.
"Get off me." Jiang Chiyu rolled her eyes at him and peeled him off with disdain. Jiang Yan had been this way since they were in the womb.
Sitting to the side, Wen Jiu covered his eyes with one hand. If he didn't know they were fraternal twins, he would have truly mistaken them for a pair of love-struck sweethearts, clinging to each other so stickily.
When they left the private room, the waiter handed them the takeout bags. Jiang Yan grabbed both bags and headed straight forward. Jiang Chiyu immediately chased after him, intending to snatch one of the bags, but Jiang Yan anticipated her move and nimbly dodged her.
But this couldn't stump Jiang Chiyu. After all, she had a background in martial arts; she used a quick eye and fast hands to predict his next move and successfully snatched the bag back.
"I wasn't trying to steal it from you; I just wanted to help you carry it," Jiang Yan said with a straight face.
Jiang Chiyu had long since seen through his little scheme. "I want to be self-reliant. I feel more at ease if I have the things in my own hands."
He raised an eyebrow. He had only meant to tease her, but since she had seen through him, he walked toward the car with a placid expression.
After dropping Jiang Yan off, Jiang Chiyu returned to the filming site. As soon as she opened her door, she felt an unfriendly gaze from behind. She instinctively looked back, but saw no one there. She couldn't help but feel suspicious, a hint of caution rising in her heart.
Just as she was about to turn and go inside, a hand suddenly pressed against the door.
"Sister Chiyu! Where have you been? I haven't been able to find you; I've been waiting for you." Fang Yingying suddenly poked her head out from behind the door, smiling at Jiang Chiyu.
The tension in Jiang Chiyu's heart relaxed the moment she saw Fang Yingying. She let out a sigh of relief and asked calmly, "I had something to take care of and went out for a bit. Did you need something?"
"Look at this!" Fang Yingying said, holding up a bag to show her.
