Chapter Ten: Young Master?
Only Liu Mang was left alone in the restaurant.
“I didn’t expect you to be that kind of person,” a cruel glint flashed in Liu Mang’s eyes as he muttered under his breath, “Just wait. So it’s all about money, isn’t it…”
“Hmph!”
Liu Mang snorted coldly, a decision already forming in his heart, and quietly left the restaurant alone.
Ma Wu had originally thought this was just a side quest, never imagining it would lead to such trouble.
As he waited, Ma Wu couldn’t sit idly by. Now that he had the system, how could he not take advantage of it?
“Boss, bring out your best stones!” Ma Wu shouted loudly in the raw materials market, startling the people there.
But the way everyone looked at Ma Wu sparkled with greed—what did that mean? It meant Ma Wu was a fat sheep to be fleeced!
Why not slaughter him for a profit?
Wait, the boss who had just been smiling suddenly changed his expression.
Ma Wu had money now, but it was sudden wealth, and his habits hadn’t changed yet. His clothes made him look no different from the riffraff off the street.
How could someone like that have money?
The bosses, previously excited, now pretended not to see Ma Wu, leaving him standing awkwardly on his own.
Damn, he should’ve worn something nicer. After all, stone gambling wasn’t like buying a house—anyone could do it if they liked. But he was a rookie, completely clueless.
Having money didn’t mean he had to waste it.
“Brother, want to take a look at my stone?” a young man called out, inviting Ma Wu over.
“What kind of stone do you have?” Ma Wu squatted down for a look.
The young man mysteriously pulled a stone from a plastic bag. It was all black, looking no different from an ordinary river pebble.
Ding! Unknown energy detected!
The system’s voice echoed in Ma Wu’s mind, making him incredulous.
“Old man, how much?” Ma Wu suddenly grew interested. “Is ten million enough?”
The young man was about to blurt out “five hundred thousand,” but quickly shut his mouth.
“More than enough!” The young man could barely contain his joy—he never expected this worthless stone could fetch such a price!
“Not for sale!” An aged voice reverberated through the air, so hoarse and forceful it triggered a fit of coughing.
Ma Wu looked up to see a silver-haired old man. He seemed quite advanced in years, but his spirit remained strong.
“Old Zhang, I say you should sell it,” one of the bosses couldn’t bear to watch and tried to persuade him. “That stone isn’t even confirmed to be for stone gambling—someone wants it, that’s lucky.”
Old Zhang stamped his cane in frustration, barking, “I said it’s not for sale! You, you, you! Get out of here!”
His tone was entirely unfriendly, but Ma Wu didn’t mind.
The system guaranteed it was a good thing—so it must be.
If he won’t sell, maybe he’s an expert himself!
“Sir, name your price. I’m happy to pay,” Ma Wu said politely.
“I told you, it’s not for sale!” Old Zhang said as he turned away, but the moment he saw Ma Wu, his pupils contracted.
His fingers trembled as he pointed at Ma Wu, but in the end, he said nothing.
“What’s wrong with you?” Ma Wu looked at Old Zhang, puzzled and growing more suspicious.
“Come with me,” Old Zhang dropped the words and walked away.
Ma Wu, as if bewitched, obediently followed Old Zhang into a shabby house.
With a bang, the wooden door was shut. Old Zhang immediately knelt before Ma Wu.
“Young master, I’ve finally found you!”
What was going on? Ma Wu was utterly bewildered.
“Are you sure you’re not mistaken?” Ma Wu asked tentatively.
“I’m not mistaken. You’re the young master of the Ma family,” Old Zhang said, tears streaming down his face.
“Ever since I lost you as a child, I’ve been consumed by guilt and remorse. I never imagined you’d return someday…”
Ma Wu couldn’t bear to watch, so he helped Old Zhang up and let him sit to explain slowly.
According to Old Zhang, decades ago the Ma family was a prominent aristocratic clan in the city. But one day, they were betrayed and wiped out.
“All these years, you’ve suffered,” Ma Wu said quietly after a long silence.
To be honest, Ma Wu was half skeptical about Old Zhang’s story.
If he really was a Ma family descendant, why hadn’t there been any news all these years?
And why was the Ma family betrayed? Ma Wu knew nothing of this.
“It wasn’t hard at all,” Old Zhang’s eyes suddenly darkened. “As long as you’re safe, that’s enough.”
“In that case, I’ll be leaving now.” Ma Wu just wanted to find a quiet place to clear his thoughts.
Whether it was true or not, he needed to investigate further.
“Young master, take this with you.” Old Zhang hurriedly handed him the stone. “This is the Ma family’s heirloom.”
“No matter what, you must accept it.”
Heirloom—a stone?
Even though the system had detected unknown energy inside, Ma Wu still found it hard to believe.
“Then take the ten million,” Ma Wu wasn’t one to haggle. They’d agreed on a price, and that was that.
Old Zhang shook his head in panic. “No, young master. These are Ma family things. I’m just returning them to their rightful owner.”
“Then let it count as your custodial fee for all these years.” Ma Wu forcibly pressed the bank card into Old Zhang’s hand.
Before Old Zhang could protest, Ma Wu left.
“System, what’s inside this thing?”
Ding! Would the host like to extract the unknown energy?
“Yes!” Ma Wu replied without hesitation.
Ding! Energy extraction in progress. Countdown: 3, 2, 1…
Ding! Unknown space detected, fusing with the system…
Ding! Congratulations, host has acquired a storage space.
Storage space?! Ma Wu was stunned—he never expected the stone to conceal such a treasure.
Ding! Congratulations, host’s series quest: Investigate your origins
Reward: 800 success points, one random elixir
Ding! Congratulations, host for humiliating the raw materials market crowd, gaining Face-Slapping Value: 50
Upon receiving the quest, Ma Wu’s expression grew instantly serious.
He hadn’t expected that his origins would trigger a quest—this was something he would have to explore deeply.
If he hadn’t been called away by Old Zhang, his Face-Slapping Value would surely be higher.
“Dear audience, the annual Goldfish TV Popular Host Selection Contest is about to begin.”
Tonight, Goldfish TV was destined to be lively—not just for the event, but also because two well-prepared participants were about to clash.
“Sister Li, are you ready?” Lei Bujing asked a seductive woman in her thirties.
Sister Li was a long-standing third-ranked host on Goldfish TV, famous for her sexy figure and rumored to be an exceptional singer and dancer.
“Of course,” Sister Li flicked her hair, replying, “I’m not about to lose to some little girl.”
Compared to Sister Li’s confidence, Lin Erke seemed a bit nervous.
“She’s Goldfish TV’s renowned top streamer…” Lin Erke’s voice trembled, “Can I really win?”
Ma Wu gently reassured Lin Erke, “Don’t worry, we have ways to handle it.”
He then sent her something, and when Lin Erke looked at him in shock, Ma Wu just smiled calmly.
In the live broadcast room, several hosts were already prepared.
“Ma Wu, let me show you the power of your grandpa!” Lei Bujing was clearly ready for battle—even before the contest started, he sent ten Lamborghinis to kick things off.
“Wow, Sister Li’s sponsor is really impressive!”
“So awesome!”
Ma Wu didn’t bother with the barrage of comments; instead, he took out his phone and began building momentum from his own account.
Lamborghini x11
To everyone’s surprise, Ma Wu had sent one more than Lei Bujing, a clear challenge.
Tsk, dare to compete with me? Lei Bujing was far more confident than before.
He was about to keep up the momentum, but Sister Li stopped him.
“Don’t rush, young master,” Sister Li said calmly, “I haven’t even made my move yet! Wait a bit before you act.”
“Oh? What special surprise do you have in store?” Lei Bujing asked with interest.
Sister Li gave him a mysterious smile, and in the next moment, music began playing in her live broadcast room.
